Arlen Specter was asked to comment on the future of the Republican Party? How would he know? He ceased to be a Republican decades ago. He's been squishing out to labor unions in Pennsylvania all that time.

The best way to know where the future of the Republican Party is to go in the exact opposite of whatever Arlen ("Scottish justice") Specter says. And why is the Gang of 70 dumb enough to take him seriously on this critical subject?

Congressman Billybob, you’re a lot smarter about this stuff than I am - but am I nuts in continuing to hope for a Conservative Party that would embody true conservative beliefs rather than hoping the Republican party eventually wakes up and smells the coffee?

The party of Arlen Specter, Chuck Hagel, and yes, John McCain may have worn the mantle of conservatism in the past but it’s fallen by the wayside now. I’m really having trouble giving a damn what Arlen Spector sees as the future of the Republican party as long as people like him are a part of it.

I realize that scratch-building a 3rd party wouldn’t be easy, but trying to change the GOP seems pretty much impossible...or am I being too harsh?

Wasn't he actually a registered Democrat prior to 1964?
