CNSNews.com Rush Limbaugh Buys Belinda the Jeweler a Car to Beat Post-Election Blues Thursday, November 06, 2008 By Penny Starr, Senior Staff Writer

(CNSNews.com) – In the days leading up to the presidential election, radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh fielded calls from listeners concerned about an Obama administration, including one Texas woman who he thought sounded under the weather.

“Have you heard of Zicam?” Limbaugh asked. “I would go out and get some and swab your nose. I’ll tell you what else I am going to do. I’m going to send you a copy of Vince Flynn’s latest novel.

“In addition to Vince Flynn’s latest novel, I’m going to buy you a car,” he added.

“I thought he was kidding at first,” Belinda Davis told CNSNews.com, “talking about (President-elect Barack) Obama and how he will take everything away, so he would give me a car and Obama could take it away.”

But days later, Davis was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe, courtesy of Limbaugh, whose only conditions for giving her the car was that she try his recommended cold medication and that the car be made by General Motors.

“It was on a whim,” Limbaugh told CNSNews.com. “She sounded so tired, distraught, and frightened about her and her husband's business future with an Obama victory.

“I just wanted to brighten her day, keep her inspired and ‘in the game,’” he said. “We will need people like Belinda Davis to keep the country moving.”

Davis, who runs a small jewelry business with her husband in Kerrville, Texas, said she called Limbaugh on Oct. 28 to complain about Hollywood celebrities getting so much attention during the election season while everyday working folks like her and her husband were ignored.

Rush has a BIG HEART.

If you’ve ever met him, you’d see he’s a puff ball.

A good guy!

That whole call was great... Great to be able to do that.

Of course only RUSH could do something like that.

Oil is down right now, it's just a few cents over $60 a barrel. It almost looks like the price of oil is tethered to the DOW!

Not a good combination of things. Oil goes down only when there's reason to believe it will be in less demand, and one sure-fire way to lessen demand is to have a worldwide recession.

I’ve heard that Elvis was known to buy cars for strangers, too. He was also a very generous man.

Rush just pulled an Oprah. I feel ambiguous about his actions.

If he paid for the car himself, he did not pull an Oprah. Oprah’s cars were provided by GM. She got the credit and loads of positive PR. It must be really cool to be able to buy a stranger a car just on a whim.

I remember a NYT article about Rush that stated that Rush was a big tipper at restaurants.

Now I wonder if rich liberals, like the Hollyweird crowd, are as generous as Rush is towards working class people. I’ll bet not.

She’ll feel even better when she gets the Capital Gains tax bill on that.

Rush, I have the post-election blues too, and all I need is a nice lunch with you! No Iranian caviar necessary!

Seriously, that was a wonderful and generous thing to do, made special because it was so quiet and didn't involve a TV audience screaming and weeping a la Oprah.

Even more seriously, I still want that lunch with Rush!

Isn’t that awesome?

There’s a country music performer who kept track of ticket sales and treated his millionth ticket holder couple to some niceness. He had staff escort them backstage after giving them front row seats, and showered them with similar manner of goods and services. He remembered where his paycheck comes from unlike far too many entertainers and celebrities. When I was a kid I used to ponder what I’d do if I became a millionaire, while slightly twisted I thought it would be fun to dress up like a bum and hang around for a while and reward good samaritans.

Not only did GM provide the cars, it was their idea, it was a new model launch. But 0prah sure did try to take the credit.

Rush and other talk radio host have advertising contacts with GM. They are given demonstrators to try out you hear them talking about it constantly. I am sure that gifting a wholesale price car is chump change compared to the ad bill. They will work it out but it is still a nice gesture and good PR for Rush and GM. If Air America had been able to withstand the rigors of the marketplace they would have nice contracts with GM too.

I wonder who will pay the income taxes on the value of the car.
