Actually, in many ways this country IS racist. Many people voted for Hussein solely because he is (half) black. That is racist.

The pundits have made a huge drama-queen deal over this somehow being a "triumph over racism," but it's really only the '60s-worshipping pundits and provocateurs who thought this was a racist nation in the first place, anyway. Most Americans long ago knew it was not. Beyond us, then, lies the normal, turgid government work, just like always. The incoming President may not look like "the guys on the dollar bills," and that's interesting enough, I suppose. But, as always, we're all way more interested in the dollar bills than we are in the President. When Jackie Robinson broke the color line in baseball, he was an amazing player, fast, fluid, quick in the field, line drives off his bat. He battled through bitter opposition standing tall and taking on all challenges.
Barack Obama is not really someone special. He has never really accomplished anything. People willingly put up over $600 million to get him elected. The media led the parade for him like a jazz band marching down Bourbon Street. There was no Bradley effect. There were no racial overtones other than those introduced by Obama and his staff. He was up against a weak opponent with the deck stacked in his favor.
Yes Barack Obama showed that a black man can become president. It's because the US is not a racist nation anymore, not because he is a great man. So, it's over and what are you left with? You are left with a man who says a lot of nothing while doing a lot of nothing but looks good while doing it. Sure the hype will resurface now and then between now and inauguration day, but by January 31, it will just be a Marxist with stupid ideas trying to guide a nation through hard economic times. The stupid ideas will quickly become more of an issue than the color of his skin.

When you're right, you're right. This is a great piece. I'm going to refer to it in the future. :) It's going to be amusing when, in a couple of years, the rest of the world still hates us. Except that it won't be amusing.
