Tuesday's snowstorm kicked off a five-day accumulation that has reached about 46 inches of snow, allowing Snowbird Ski Resort to open Friday, the second-earliest start in the resort's 38-year history. The resort didn't open until Nov. 28 last year.

Snowbird is the only resort open so far, giving skiers and snowboarders a head start on the season. Most resorts typically open after Thanksgiving.
The Aerial Tram, as well as the Gadzoom and Mid-Gad lifts, were open on Friday and open terrain included Regulator Johnson from the top of Hidden Peak, as well as Big Emma and Bassackwards.
Even though the runs and lifts are limited, Ben Hauber has been out every day since Friday and hasn't gotten bored yet. It is the Pittsburgh native's first ski season since moving to Utah.
"According to my friends, it's a bad day, but this [would be considered] a great day back home," Hauber said. "The first day was awesome. All I plan on doing is working and being here [at Snowbird]."

Some queers feel the decision to boycott Utah was a bit rash!
Skiers Michael Plummer, right, and Seabury Davies and their sons scan the scenery as the Tram at Snowbird approaches the dropoff point, on Sunday.
Seabury Davies of Park City pauses as he waits for his friends Sunday before getting on the Snowbird Ski Resort tram for another run of skiing. Since Friday, skiers and boarders at Snowbird have taken advantage of the resort's second-earliest start in its 38-year history.
Let me guess...Algore’s in Utah this week
It's been a big year, and it ain't over yet.
My family owns a condo at Cottonwood Heights, just a few miles from the entrace to Little Cottonwood Canyon (where Snowbird is located). Snowbird is an excellent mountain and I will be out there skiing in January.
The idiots had it all wrong, instead of another Jurassic period we are heading into an Ice Age!!!
Run for the hills and let's get Al Gore on it!!
Shaping up to be a snowy winter here too. We got our first snow the first week of October and have had two more storms come through since. If it was just a few degrees colder, our resorts would be wide open for skiing before Thanksgiving.

The majority of the entire US was colder this past year than the one before.
But ... but ... Al Gore said...
I like Alta better than Snowbird.
Of course, this is a sign of global warming. This was 2007 snow which is almost a year late due to global warming.
Please leave science to the hands of experts. I'm sure that they will come up something about as logical as my explanation.
Alta is great too, however Snowbird has much more terrain, and is less crowded.
“Greatest Snow on Earth!”
I grew up as a teenager, skiing off the beaten path at Alta. In the early 80’s, you could actually buy an all-day lift ticket for $8.00. I actually skied in chest-high powder around West Rustler, but that’s not saying much. Stories like those are fairly common at Alta.
Actually, where I live in NW Washington state... it has been a relatively warm fall so far... Al “Global Warming” Gore will take all the credit.
