It was the first time the Royal Navy had been engaged in a fatal shoot-out on the high seas in living memory.

The Falklands?

So were the Barbary Pirates. In both cases it is Islam. This time around, I don’t expect the USA to bail everyone out.

The Falklands War did not involve this sort of fighting (at sea.)

I suggest you Google up some facts on the Falklands War.

Obama isn’t a Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson was a man who believed is protecting the republic, and believed in supporting those who supported us. Obama can never hold a candle to Jefferson

How exciting to see the Brits in action.

I'd have loved to see the faces on the islamoscum when the Brits opened up on them.

"Stand by to repel boarders!!"

The Barbary Pirates are back. Will the US Marines clear them out again? I doubt it.

Billions for entitlements, but not one cent for defense.

“I think they are trying to make up for the last encounter with 4 Iranians in a row boat. That time they all surrendered and sold out their country on TV at the first opportunity.”

Short memory on the part of the author of this article ...

I am reminded of a classic lawyer joke that ended in “...a good start.”

A good start for the Brits. Now let's let others have a go at things and rather than landing the pirate for civil court trials, put them in the brig of a ship of the line of a nation that still allows the death penalty and have a maritime law court try and execute them for piracy on the high seas.

They used handguns and rifles on board ship? I thought is was missiles, guns, torpedoes, and larger machine guns at sea. I guess I’m getting old.

Even better — Britain still has one survivor of the Battle of Jutland:
Henry William Allingham

You learn something all the time. I hadn't known shoot-out was a naval term.

Thanks. This was the second year I had a garden. I was some what like you, but not city bound, just never had the opportunity for a garden. There is a member here that is a Master Gardner, Diana in Wisconsin. There are a lot of other very knowledgeable gardeners here on FR. Hope you make to somewhere to plant your own.

Looks like the Royal Navy will have to report to cultural tolerance class.

The Battle of Jutland (1916), the Ajax, Achilles and Exeter going after the Graf Spee off of Montevideo, Uruguay in 1939, the Bismarck in 1940? That recent spot of bother called World War Two? I seem to remember the Royal Navy being peripherally involved in that unpleasantness.

Read the whole piece...They were British commandos in an assault boat...

Commandos= SAS, SBS in UK
Commandos= SEALs, DELTA, Army Special Forces, Marine Recon in USA

There is plenty of opportunities for small arms engagements at sea with these forces...
