In December 2005, Sir Elton John had civil partnership ceremony in Windsor, England. You may be surprised with Elton John's reaction to California's proposition 8. He says he does not see why gays need to be married and that to him civil partnerships seem adequate. "We're not married. Let's get that right. We have a civil partnership. What is wrong with Proposition 8 is that they went for marriage. Marriage is going to put a lot of people off, the word marriage," he said. John went on to say, "I don't want to be married. I'm very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership. The word marriage, I think, puts a lot of people off. You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships."
Who would have known that you would get a dose of common sense on Prop 8 from the world's most famous homosexual?
Well... just... FABULOUS!
That is the most reasonable thing I’ve heard him say since Capt’n Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboy.
Amazing. He speaks the truth.
Homosexual people can get married too. They just have to marry someone of the opposite sex. Even Sir Elton tried that once.
AT LEAST he’s honest..God still is waiting for him to let Him in (his heart), and loves him, but does not approve of his behavior. Praying for you Sir. John!
Sir Elton is going to piss off the gays, but he always sticks by his principals (however wacky) even if they don’t fall in lock step with his ‘community’.
Good for him. He’s very talented, and apparently, is not craving approbation. He’s comfortable with who he is.
Elton John is an elegant man and seems to be quite intellegent and HONEST.
I think you will find most people have no problem with civil ceremony. Marraige has religious cannotations and puts people off.
Wow - this is great
There will soon be a bonfire fueled by Elton John’s albums. He is going to get his arse whomped.......oh never mind...
Thuper
I used to occasionally see Elton John shopping at the A&P store in the Peachtree Battle Shopping Center in Buckhead (Atlanta, GA). He was a late night shopper, but so was I all those years ago when my baby was little.
But I do kind of wish the Queen had waited a few more decades before giving him his knighthood.
When I read "Sir Elton says ..." I expect the worst.
There should be no "civil unions" and no homosexual marriages. The thought of it makes most people sick. God is NOT going to tolerate those who live that kind of lifestyle.
I am sure there must be others who feel the same way.
