ScienceDaily (Nov. 12, 2008) — The HPV vaccine, sold as Gardasil in the U.S., is intended to prevent four strains of the human papillomavirus, the most common sexually transmitted infection in the world. The vaccine also prevents against cervical cancer.
While the vaccine represents a significant public health advance, a new article in the Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics suggests that it is premature for states to currently mandate the HPV vaccine as a condition for school attendance.

I *knew* it! I still can’t believe Governor Perry fell for this crap! >:-(
Does it PREVENT cancer or does it prevent HPV from CAUSING cancer?
There are a number of causes of cervical cancer, does it work against all of them?
And why isn't it offered to men who get throat cancers and testicular cancer from HPV? It happens.
I think the whole matter was to label this a "women's issue" to take away any debate on the matter. Even if women are the primary ones harmed by HPV, men should be vaccinated too, otherwise they are carriers who will still spread it to women (of other nationalities or who missed vaccination by choice or age bracket).
Will Malia and Sasha get vaccinated?
I don’t think giving the HPV vaccine is a good idea. They only give it to females only, which runs in the violation against Equal Protection Clause. Also, the vaccine has some unpleasant side effects.
Membership in the AMA is way down. ‘Organized’ medicine is a conspiracy.
My wife calls Gardasil the “slut vaccine”.
I can’t put my finger on it, but this is exactly what I expected to come down the pike. Even though a lot of people were singing the praises of this vaccine, and were making it sound like only a person who hated women wouldn’t support it, I just didn’t buy into the hype.
Interesting...
The HPV virus is much more destructive to women than to men. 98% of the time, men clear the infection on their own without complication. Although some strains could cause cancer in men, it is extremely rare and usually only occurs in men with very weak immune systems.
Therefore the risk-to-benefit ratio states that it is better for men NOT to take a vaccine for this virus.
With women, if the immune system struggles to clear the infection, certain strains can progress into cervical cancer much more easily.
Interesting. Any reasons why HPV is more destructive to women than on men? It would be better if they can come up with a safer vaccine. I am sure some pharmaceutical company is working on it.
