The Prop 8 fallout continues.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Theater Director Scott Eckern's donation in support of California's Prop. 8 defining marriage as between one man and one woman "turned into a lightning rod in the debate over gay rights." The L.A. Times says that Eckern resigned Wednesday claiming he he wanted to protect the California Musical Theatre from controversy. The Theatre has been Eckern's "artistic home since 1984," says the Times. He has also been the nonprofit stage company's artistic director since 2003. Eckern's $1,000 donation had to be publicly reported under California election law. After this took place, the news of Eckern's donation began quickly spreading around the internet. Then Eckern began to draw criticism, according to the L.A. Times, "from some prominent stage artists, including Tony Award-winning composer Marc Shaiman ('Hairspray') and Jeff Whitty, the 'Avenue Q' librettist."
"I am disappointed that my personal convictions have cost me the opportunity to do what I love the most," Eckern said in a written statement. He said he hoped that his resignation would "help the healing in the local theatergoing and creative community." Eckern actually has a lesbian sister who is in a domestic partnership, but affirmed his right "to act upon my belief that the traditional definition of marriage should be preserved."
The left-wing loons that cost Eckern his job should be ashamed of themselves. This is inexcusable.
Sounds like he was Rainbow listed...
Wow, this really pisses me off. REALLY pisses me off.
I’m trying to form the words, but can’t right now...but political persecution, or something like that.
He had to know this was trouble. Theater is a mecca for homosexuals, especially in California, and they are not known to tolerate opposing viewpoints.
Instead, they show them mocking the Mormon Church. The intolerant Mormons that send their young people all over the globe doing Missionary work and helping the helpless.
The Country is insane.
It appears you've coined a new phrase. I shall steal it and use it to death.
Thanks...that just leaves one question...what the heck are we still doing up? :-)
Sleep FReeping...
This kind of story reaffirms why I voted Yes on 8. I am sick to death of the ram-it-down-your-throat mentality of the gay mafia.
I’ve had gay friends, and still know some good, decent people who are gay...but they are NOT the militant ones who feel the need to push push push push.
I lost a friendship before the 2004 election because a guy who I had considered a good friend could NOT shut up about how gay marriage was more important than anything...and I finally told him that there was no way in hell gay marriage was more important than national security because he might not even be around to (fill in the blank, won’t repeat it here).
The gay mafia doesn’t get it; they do NOT bring about sentiments of sympathy or empathy, they drive a stake in their own “cause.” I don’t really care if people are gay, but they are starting to making me care, and not in the way they hope. Unfortunate for the gay people who don’t make their bedroom activities the focal point of their existence and are good, productive and kind people who just happen to be gay. If I were one of them, I’d be activating to call off the dogs because they will be the biggest losers as far as “acceptance.”
Sorry, just had to rant. Still fuming over the story in the OP. Score one for the gay mafia, at least in short-terms goals.
The lack of respect for opposing opinions demonstrated by the left should scare the hell out of many leftists, not just Conservatives. This politically correct climate we find ourselves in, is very dangerous IMO. The homosexuals reserve the right to protest against everyone, but if one person disagrees, that person doesn’t even have a right to a living.
Jobs are going to be scarce in the coming economy. Who will risk speaking his mind?
Yes, it is.
Which ought to tell you that maybe the best idea is just to back away from these people, and let them commit the collective suicide which they are hell-bent on committing, and in the meantime just do your darnedest to make certain that they don't take you down with them.
or FReepwalking...
New keywords: rainbowlist, rainbowlisting
“Rainbow listed” is a goodie. And the idea of making it a new keyword is a great idea too so we can keep track of this BS.
He was brave for doing it and does not deserve these consequences.
Theater is one of the things I enjoy tremendously and I hate that it has become a gay thing.
They've pretty much managed to take that over and they won't stop there, either.
Midnight release of new World of Warcraft expansion pack ;)
Why, it's 11:30 a.m.
I've been up for hours. :)
