Young retains US House seat in Alaska
By MARY PEMBERTON 1 hour ago
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) After the toughest fight of his long political career, Alaska voters have returned Republican incumbent Don Young to the U.S. House for his 19th term.
Young, 75, defied pre-election pundits by surviving a strong challenge from Democrat Ethan Berkowitz. Young was returned to office despite being under investigation and linked to an ongoing corruption scandal.
The Associated Press declared Young the winner Wednesday, with Young getting 50 percent of the vote compared with Berkowitz's 45 percent.

And when he starts talking to your dog and following its instructions, youll sleep soundly at night.......
If I had a dime for every jailhouse conversion Id be able to bail out the country
See post 15 and enjoy some good news for a change. His crimes notwithstanding, Berkowitz is the real deal when it comes to his Christianity. I am not at all ashamed to say that he is my Brother in Christ, I have offered prayers in his behalf, and his testimony speaks for itself.
I do agree with you that there are many fake jailhouse conversions, but David Berkowitz is not one of them.

Amen. Me, too. The one thing that I noticed about him is that his whole countenance changed when he was saved and set free. Wonderful story.
Good to see you again Sister, and like you I have seen that new countenance about our Brother, he is one of the few reasons I've ever bothered to watch Larry King, but when King went to Sullivan Correctional to visit with David, I tuned in and I could see that 'new creature in Christ', in fact he was (IMHO) trying ever so respectfully to get Larry King to think about his own spiritual state, and he was quoting Scripture not as someone who can parrot the words, but as someone who believes in, and does his best to live those words.
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a very good example of 'how to be a Christian', I remain profane, abrupt, I say what I think and let the chips fall where they may. But all I can do in this mortal body is to "do my best, and trust Jesus for the Rest". If someone asked me whether to emulate my own Christian walk, or that of David Berkowitz, I would tell them to follow David's example.

I read somewhere that McCain was campaigning for Chambliss in Georgia. So the democrats will most likely have their 60 seat filibuster proof senate. Good. They’ll have no one to blame but themselves after they send us into a depression.

Huh huh. When you have David “Son of Sam” to your home to have fellowship with him, make sure your dog is locked up outside.

Based on your cynicism, I would feel more comfortable with David Berkowitz than with you.

Touche, mkjessup, well played. You may have “Son of Sam” over to you house without further criticism from me.

Based on what the converted David Berkowitz has said, HE might even say it would be naive to ‘have him right over’.

Young, 75
That is our problem right there. Sheesh 75? Presidential candidate 72, Senator from Alaska 82? WTH???? We need young blood badly. No wonder youth can’t relate to these retirees or should be. I can’t understand why they put mandatory retirement for military but not government employees. I mean 70 years old should be max for electing officials. The Grand Old Party is certainly fitting.

I want Stevens to lose but Coleman to win. Stevens does not deserve to win. I would not call Stevens honorable at all. Crooks should not be given priviledges like winning elections. Coleman even though he was a democrat is needed to help with the Republicans. We can live without Stevens.

Yes, I saw that interview. I am impressed with the changes in ‘Sam’s’ life. I’m sure there are many, even here, who believe he’s lying but you can’t change someone’s countenance that way. Only God can do that. His eyes are the biggest change.
Not one of us is perfect, and God is continually working on us. Love, Mary

I don't think anyone is in a position to presume what David Berkowitz might or might not say about what is honestly a hypothetical situation, i.e., he has stated numerous times that he does not wish to be paroled, that he expects and accepts that he will be in prison for the rest of his life.
If I should ever find myself within a reasonable driving distance of his institution, I will be happy to visit him if he wishes.

I admit, I was not expecting this at all. Hopefully, Ted Stevens will be making a victory speech soon.

Yes indeed, Sarah’s Lt Gov. Sean Parnell. Another great reformer. Still good we have the House seat (I think). We need that Sen. seat though.

Is Stevens coming back? Yesterday it looked as if absentees were sinking him.
To: Chet 99
The ideal situation here would be for both Young and Stevens to go to jail. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin would appoint a better senator than Stevens, and there would be a special election to fill Young's seat. Being Alaska, that election would probably be won by a younger, less crooked Republican.
(You can't be appointed to the House of Representatives, you have to be elected -- Article 1, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution).
