A cross-dressing American who suffers from schizophrenia escaped a German mental hospital without his medications on Saturday and is believed to be in South Florida.
''He's a potential danger to the citizens of the city of Miami,'' Miami private investigator Daniel Maya said Thursday.
Robert Denney, 35, talked a hospital guardian into giving him his passport, then went online and booked a USAir flight to the United States. 'He used his parents' credit card number and he got a ticket,'' Maya said.
Denney flew Saturday night from Munich to Chicago, then to Miami. On Monday, he called his parents, Mike and Marianne Denney, of Bavaria. Mike Denney is a retired U.S. Army colonel.
''He wasn't on the phone for long,'' said Derick Rhodes of Brooklyn, Denney's friend since high school. ``He tried to mislead them and make them think he was in Denver on his way to Texas. He has a brother in Texas. They sent his brother to the airport in San Antonio. He checked with the airline and they said he was not a passenger.''
HOMELESS SERVICES
Phone records show Denney called from a land line near Peacock Park in Coconut Grove. In Germany, Denney's parents found his cellphone and checked recently dialed numbers.
''He had called Camillus House and Miami Housing Assistance Program,'' Maya said. ``He had called nine different numbers related to homeless assistance.''
No one at any of the Miami shelters has recognized Denney's picture, Maya said.
Denney is about 6 feet tall and 140 pounds. He has long dark hair usually tied in a ponytail and chain-smokes Marlboro cigarettes, Rhodes said.
Maya said Denney has recently worn a black cap that says ''craftsman'' and apparently traveled to the United States with a small duffel bag marked ''Prada.'' ''It's not an authentic Prada bag,'' Maya said. ``He wrote it on.''
Denney arrived in Miami with about $700 cash, but Rhodes believes that money is gone.
For several years, Denney, who is gay or bisexual, has preferred to dress as a woman and call himself ''Robbi,'' Rhodes said.
''He gravitates toward galleries and any clubs that are heavily cross-dressing oriented,'' he said.
Recently, Denney has been ''calling himself Robbi more and speaking in a softer, more feminine way,'' Rhodes said.
Denney, a Houston-born architect and artist who graduated from Texas A&M University, has been in and out of mental hospitals since 2000 for paranoid schizophrenia.
''He's not a violent person. He hasn't had a history of being violent. He's injured himself a few times,'' Rhodes said.
Doctors at Bezirkskliniken Schwaben hospital, where Denney has been involuntarily committed since July, describe him as ``psychotic.''
Denney has been treated at the hospital with more than a half-dozen different drugs. ''Mr. Denney, unfortunately, was not able to develop almost any understanding of his disease and the necessity of a continuous drug treatment,'' according to a medical certificate signed this week by two doctors.
NO VIOLENT HISTORY
He left the hospital without medication, said Maya, who is primarily searching Coconut Grove and downtown Miami near Bayside.
''He doesn't have a history of violence, but what I understand from his parents, he could possibly cause harm to himself or harm to others,'' Maya said. ``He was committed for a reason.''
Anyone with information about Robert Denney should call Miami police detective Jose Rojas at 305-579-6619 or private investigator Daniel Maya at 786-999-4222.
But transgendered persons aren't a danger to society. President-Elect Obomba plans to include these persons in his appointments.(No doubt on his way to DC to join new WH staff)
Homosexuality can be a beautiful thing. Just stay away from them.

That is a great headline.
He picked out an excellent place to blend in....................
I think the headline pretty much says it all.

I resent the suggestion that I'm "hiding out".

Dangerous? Ha! Who could possibly be more dangerous than a freaking German Psychiatrist? LOL!
He didn’t run away, he’s coming for an interview with Obama’s transistion team.
He just wanted to cast his vote for Obama...
I was about to say, they’ve described half of Coconut Grove.
The Germans are slipping. This never would have happened 70 years ago.
He’s just a little “Bezirkskliniken”, which, loosely translated, means; do not approach from behind whilst wearing a chicken suit, lest his emollients overcome his sensibilities.
If I’m casting the movie, I want Charles Durning as the detective about to retire, Stifler (the guy with three names from American Pie) as his kooky new partner who’s dang near gonna get him killed, Paul Giamatti as the journalist who gets involved, Cheech and Chong as slacker Coconut Grove beat cops, and Paul Ruebens (Pee Wee Herman) as the creepy cross-dresser.
On the serious side, exactly why is he being locked up?
They say he isn’t violent, and isn’t a danger to anyone. He isn’t suicidal. The “may harm himself” is pretty vague.
We parole cold-blooded murderers back into socity, but a cross dresser needs to be locked up?
