ISD problems in the Dallas area is nothing new.... In 07 the Texas had to shut down the Wilmer-Hutchins ISD just south of the city of Dallas due to major problems both academically and administratively and assign the students to the DISD system.

News organizations have been running stories on some ISDs [Houston area] showing how they are hiding thru classification procedures criminal activities of their students. Example a student may get caught with drugs/assualt, etc and the school system is coding it as a violation of the ‘code of conduct’. That way it seems minor.

.....That’s what an 11 News Defenders investigation has uncovered after identifying 70,000 police reports at Harris County schools and comparing those with the student discipline districts reported to the Texas Education Agency.

When a student commits a crime, the school district must report the discipline taken against that child to the state for every parent to see. But after reviewing records from 21 local school districts, we found weapons, drugs and assault charges watered down to look far less serious, or sometimes, they just seemed to vanish......

Yikes.

Since I am the education reporter at another Texas paper, I will have to check that out for here.....how outrageous.

I am already doing a story about the district I cover taking years to fire a man who was an art teacher at the youth center (correctional facility). He was drawing pictures of students and some naked drawings of fantasy art-type things like mermaids. He also violated policy by taking girls out of their cells to work with them individually, mailing letters for them etc.

But, instead of being fired, they moved him to another school. His insubordination continued, yet he wasn’t fired until this year after they found more of the same fantasy drawings.

This is after in the late ‘90s he got in trouble for writing letters to a girl of a semi-romantic nature (she didn’t like it and reported it) and was forced to resign from that different school district.

While it could be worse....nobody is alleging the guy had a sexual relationship with students etc....he crossed the line way too often and was just shuffled around instead of fired.

Just ridiculous.
