Karl Rove: History Favors Republicans in 2010
NRO ^ | November 13, 2008 | Greg Pollowitz

Karl Rove has a rosy assessment of the GOP's chances in 2010 in today's WSJ. An excerpt:

History will favor Republicans in 2010. Since World War II, the out-party has gained an average of 23 seats in the U.S. House and two in the U.S. Senate in a new president's first midterm election. Other than FDR and George W. Bush, no president has gained seats in his first midterm election in both chambers.

Since 1966, the incumbent party has lost an average of 63 state senate and 262 state house seats, and six governorships, in a president's first midterm election. That 2010 is likely to see Republicans begin rebounding just before redistricting is one silver lining in an otherwise dismal year for the GOP.

In politics, good years follow bad years. Republicans and Democrats have experienced both during the past 15 years. A GOP comeback, while certainly possible, won't be self-executing and automatic. It will require Republicans to be skillful at both defense (opposing Mr. Obama on some issues) and offense (creating a compelling agenda that resonates with voters). And it will require leaders to emerge who give the rig

I’ve love to be optimistic but the Republican party has lost it’s way... BIG time. I’m not sure 2 years will be enough time to repair.

“For the sake of America, let’s hope he is right.”

Why? So that the Republicans can, once again, spend like drunken democrats? (drunken sailors spend their own money)

The Republicans had better get some new and serious conservative leadership if anything like that is going to happen.

I am not so optimistic - Too many people voted for change and democrats have raised way too much money and their methods are improved over Republicans. We need a voice that will resonate with Americans and we STILL don’t have that voice unless you consider Sarah Palin on a national level and Quickly!

It will require Republicans to be skillful at both defense (opposing Mr. Obama on some issues) and offense (creating a compelling agenda that resonates with voters). And it will require leaders to emerge who give the right public face to the GOP. None of this will be easy. All of this will be necessary.

Well stated — but I think that Repubs are going to have to oppose Obama on MOST IF NOT ALL issues, since they will be uniformly basied in rank socialism and government empowerment. The leaders are also essential, without question.

The GOP has a chance to do this....as long as “Ol’ Pearhead” Rove isnt involved....there will be more losses if RINOs are involved

We won't with old school guys like Rove still involved.

We'll need true believers to win.

Too many people voted for change......
:::::::::
Keep in mind that most of the people that voted for “change” had NO CLUE about what they were REALLY getting. NONE! The realization of rank socialism will work in the Repub favor, once these ignorant voters realize what will be happening to their “American environment”.

More flavor in my pie! Bigger slices of pie! That's what resonates with voters, and the GOP knows it.

I’ve sort of had it with Republicans. How about I cheer for Conservatives and Constitutionalists instead?

Until we stop the decline of the voting process and clean up the fraud, it doesn’t matter who we have running...we’re going to lose.

Karl Rove: History Favors Republicans in 2010

Oh great

Kiss of death for Conservatives if the GOP is favored.

Can they go farther enough left to get elected next time?

Well if the dumba$$es can make sure the American people know that democrats control everything and are screwing it up, then maybe. However their stupidity knows no bounds.

For example, when speaking about Congress, the GOP need to refer to it as "THE DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED CONGRESS", something they got an F on this past election.
