An insider's story: Why Barack Obama was not Swift Boated
LAT ^ | today | Dan Morain

“There simply wasn’t the donor base to support it,” McCarthy said. And there are some rather interesting reasons why not. One, the federal campaign finance law that John McCain helped write has made it increasingly difficult to fund independent campaigns legally. Thus, McCain’s own law was used against him.

Bull$#it. Everyone heard all the reasons why NOT to vote for BHO.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Not so, you and I may know all the reasons but millions who faithfully depend on the “MSM” have little or no idea what they voted for. If the media had covered the facts McCain would have won in a landslide.
I do agree though that we could have used more reasons to vote for McCain. It is pathetic when our whole campaign is based on,”I’m not as bad as the other guy”.

You’re a winner. The Swift Boat campaign was done after the signing of McCain-Feingold.

I object to the misappropriation of the term “Swift boating” because it was a perfectly legitimate exposure of hypocrisy by John Kerry.

While the article makes several correct points, the most significant reason McCain didn’t draw the big money Bush did is because he was not favored by the big (conservative) GOP donors. Money talks and aisle-reachers walk.

Most of the illustrations of Petards show it to be a bronze
cup shaped device filled with black powder, fastened to a board that is then nailed directly to a door or propped against it. the fuses of the time were notoriously unreliable and the breachers were often caught in their
own explosion.

Actually, the reason he was not swiftboated was because he had a team of lawyers threatening radio and tv stations if they played commercials dealing with gun control, ayers or wright. If that didnt work then the race card came flying out. That usually silenced all.

As the Democratic National Convention was beginning, a newly formed group, American Issues Project, launched an ad that sought to tie Barack Obama to his Chicago acquaintance, Weather Underground founder Bill Ayers.

Well Ayers has now done it himself...after the election of course.

The MSM truly died this election. They didn't do *any* investigative reporting on The One, AFAIK. They were quite interested in who Trig's mother is though, but not interested enough to check Sarah's medical records, or ask the doctor who delivered him.

In modern terms, being hoist on one's own petard is often termed a "work accident", when some Jihadi, or other terrorist like Ayer's WeatherUndergrounders, blow themselves up, either while preparing the device, or at least sometime before reaching their target.

The reason, along with McM's age, I finally relented and filled in the bubble next to McCain-Palin.

Way to take a remark, clearly misunderstood, which was made tongue in cheek, to the edge with two ponderous run on sentences. Wow, that was harder than I thought.

Combine the problem that so many of the potential donors to such an effort do not like McCain with the FACT that anyone leading such a charge had to know it was likely that McCain himself would smear them and discredit their efforts, not merely maintain distance. Remember how he even called his fellow naval veterans “dishonest and dishonorable”, the “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” who saved the nation from the reign of Kerry. Then think of how much harsher he would have been to conservatives exposing Obambi’s real record and allies in attack ads.

Just as McCain said we have nothing to fear from the Obamanation, he would have sneered at the sponsors of such ads and helped to ostracize them in their own communities and across the country. Who wants to go through hell like that to help elect a guy they don’t much like?

I had hoped/expected all along that a big effort was being prepared, since there was obviously so much material to use against Obama quite legitimately. As the campaign wore on with not much happening, I hoped that it was all being saved for the last month or two of the campaign. In the end it was a big fizzle and McCain got to be a gracious losers against the most far-left, inexperienced, and anti-American candidate we have ever seen from a major party. UNREAL.

***That’s it in a nutshell. Good enough place to bump this “hoist by his own petard” thread.

Barack Obama, by contrast, was more of an "inhibitionist" (if that's a word).

Well if it wasn't, it is now!

Quite fitting given his using the applications of Alinsky Jujitsu
