I dont think it would matter. The constitution does not specify one must be born in the US. It only states you must be a ‘natural born’ citizen and there is a lot of debate about what this means exactly. Some have gone as far as to say being born on an American military installation overseas is not good enough. Others say all one needs is to meet the requirements of being a citizen at birth. Obama would hold citizenship no matter where he was born because his mom was a citizen. The case of McCain is in the middle of the two because he was born outside of the Panama Canal zone it would make his eligibility questionable if using the tighter standard. I think that no matter what is decided the issue needs to be made crystal clear because modern travel will make this issue likely to come up in the future.
