The beat goes on. In the midst of a failing bailout for the U.S. economy, Bush wants to throw money at the Big-3 so they can continue to feed their gross management incompetence and pandering to the unions' (the latter being of utmost importance) welfare state which the Big-3 created and can no longer afford. What will be next? As we watch a socialist take over the White House (Congress already) and position to take even more from the producing corporations and individuals, what will collapse next? And finally who will even be able to pay for that? The insanity of rank socialism continues....

Just to top it off — a short view of Obama’s coming socialism, which equates to taking from the producers and giving to the non-producers.

This is already-approved money. The news is that the WH supports modification of the earmarked use, which had been to retool for “green” cars.

It CAN NOT help!

They will burn through this cash just breathing for 9 months! There is NO CHANCE of this providing the time or money for meaningful retooling and change.

If they through out the union contracts, that would be a good start.

The “Big 3” are NOT the only car manufacturers in America!
There are several Japaneese and German companies building quality cars here, that don’t have the mafia overhead.

The difference between the Bush and the Dem plan is similar to the difference between stupidity and idiocy. After the 25 billion of tax payer money is wasted, the big 3 will still be uncompetitive. Only private equity and investment can solve this problem.

The only bailout that will work is a bailout of American business and tax payers by the reduction in government.

Thanks George. It this going to be your last F - up before you finally leave office, or do you have more crap to feed us poor taxpayers in the two months left. I finally have to admit that George Bush, and no longer Jimmy Carter, has been the worst President during my lifetime. And now, coming up to the plate is Barack Obama, the man with no track record.

Is there a difference between compassionate conservatism and socialism--which can be detected outside a Los Alamos lab?

This is just the beginning. Liberal Democrats I know think this is the Great Depression and Obama is FDR. The New-New Deal is here!

Of course FDR never solved the problems of the Great Depression. At its peak we had 25% unemployment. In 1940 unemployment was still high at 17%. It took a WWII to get us out of the world wide depression.

What's Obama got in mind? Massive government intervention like nothing we've seen since the Great Depression. A good cahnce we'll see a federal takeover of the auto industry. National socialism is taking hold in America.

HOLD ON! HOLD ON!

Because this is an incomplete article, most FREEPERS here are seeing just trees and not the forest. And, IMHO they are not seeing how Bush's proposal illuminates how prior Congressional interference in automobile design and production has negatively impacted US auto companies in two ways.

Those ways are: 1) Previously and legislatively REQUIRING a ridiculous mileage goal that Congress basically pulled out their butt, and 2) Inserting this $25 billion dollar "incentive" (gift to the UAW) in this same previous legislation, to keep the auto companies from being competitive and producing overseas (like every other industry), and insuring that the people making those parts and autos will be UAW.

I've reviewed other sources on this, and here's what it seems to amount to: At the urging of the UAW (who wanted new plants built in the U.S. so they wouldn't be built overseas), the DEM Congress previously provided the $25 billion in loans to the auto companies for "green plants" in the U.S. THIS WAS PART OF THE LEGISLATION THAT REQUIRED C.A.F.E. MILEAGE OF 40 MPG BY 2020. This is the already provided $25 billion that Bush is talking about using for the current problem.

IMHO- What Rush, and Hannity and other conservatives should be utilizing Bush's proposal for is to point out that, in addition to UAW wages and benefits, Congressional (i.e. government) interference in "business/labor" and "business/market" relationships has greatly contributed to this current crisis. The relevant, but incomplete, part of the linked article is:

"Those loans were approved to help automakers build more fuel-efficient vehicles and become more competitive companies in the global marketplace. The administration now supports allowing the loans to be released more quickly than the original legislation prescribed and to be used for more urgent purposes as the companies struggle to stay afloat."

IMHO - the part about "...were approved to help automakers build more fuel-efficient vehicles and become more competitive companies in the global marketplace", is just Liberal SPIN. It was really all about giving something to GREEN voters, and providing the UAW with public assets so that the union could continue to compel corporations to act in the interests of the UAW.
