Right-leaning media brace for shutout

Since the Weekly Standard launched in 1995, there’s one scenario the conservative magazine hasn’t yet faced: Democrats in control of both the White House and Congress.

But that’s what lies ahead in just two months, leaving staffers there and at other media outlets on the right bracing for a period on the outside. looking in.

The Weekly Standard has long supported the national ambitions of John McCain, going back to the 2000 primary race, and boosted Sarah Palin a year before she was well known to the Lower 48. Nevertheless, editor William Kristol, speaking from the Republican Governors Association meeting, seemed to be taking the loss in stride.

“We’re not going to sit around sniping and wailing and wish, ‘if only things had gone differently,’” Kristol said. “We’ll try to be cheerful.”

And Kristol is not the only one channeling Reaganite optimism at the start of the Obama years. The post-election issue of the National Review, a conservative journal that was frequently critical of McCain, features a sunrise adorning the cover, with one-word in the center: “Renewal.”

“It’s really about the first steps of revitalizing ourselves as conservatives,” said editor Rich Lowry.

Looking inward makes sense now that access will likely be reduced during an Obama administration. It’s doubtful that David Axelrod will answer the phone as quickly as Karl Rove, or that Joe Biden would provide a Weekly Standard writer with the exclusive access that Dick Cheney gave when he sat down with Stephen Hayes for his biography of the vice president.

I think left leaning media is in for a surprise or two as well.

The only media stories which will be allowed will be complementary puff-pieces. This will get old real fast. They will lose readers even faster than they had been.

Well, I hope Kristol can be cheerful without me, cuz I see him more or less as a LEFTY, now....Him, Noonan, and a bunch of others, too.

Having listened to Barnes, Lowry, etc. lately, it seems as though they’ve joined in with the left.

Seeing what happened to the media outlets that dared question Obama’s Marxist tendencies I'm sure there will only be Obama-friendly stories from Big Media. They wouldn't want to jeopardize their livelihoods. Our ‘free’ press isn't.

Fred Barnes makes me chuckle...he acts as if someone has stolen his toys on Christmas Morning...

The Weekly Standard will just have to improve their product, National Review as well, if anything they should experience Growth if they tailor their offerings to the issues that “We” would like to be informed on.

Sometimes I think “our” media is populated by Feminine men and Conservative Women..

I mean come on, Malkin v Barnes...no contest..LOL!

“I see him more or less as a LEFTY”

I see Neocons as “lefties” except on Israel.

"I think left leaning media is in for a surprise or two as well. "

I think all right-thinking Americans should make it their business to loudly and publically denounce the main stream media.

We need to be a thorn in their sides with regular calls, emails and letters slamming them for their left-wing leanings and spreading of lies.

Build massive mailing lists of advertisers and let them know of your intentions as well.

Get cable so you are not limited to watching the alphabet networks.

Start websites to review network fare, from the new fall shows (and their leftist messages) to the news program.

Join the media watch type organizations and keep the wires humming with your protests against the media, as a whole and specifics too.

If they take our media, we should not let their media rest or get away with one, single thing. The old "fairness doctrine" worked both ways; ordinary citizens could petition for equal time for opposing views, from either side. I doubt the new one will be this way, but we can try.

If we let them bask in their glory, without objection, it only encourages them to do it again in 2010 and 2012.

We’ve had the Dems in control of all three branches before. But we’ve never had a Communist in the oval office.

“Feminine men”

The ultimate “Girly Man” is Arnold, since he coined the term.

Rich is not exactly the most conservative guy to be saying such things.

I don’t quite trust his leadership, especially with the magazine’s apparent endorsement of McCain in 2000.

I would expect he believed McCain at the ACU national meeting this year when he said only he was the true conservative.

Rich and McLame are RINOs who have helped corrupt conservative.

Weekly Standard & Kristol = RINOs.

They wanted McCain, got McCain and turned on McCain at “Fox & Friends (...of Obama)”

What is conservative anymore? National Review? Okay.

American Thinker? Some of the best conservative stuff going. Outstanding.

WSJ? Yeah right - they really suck now.

Investors Business Daily for damn sure is conservative. IBD is the best.

I can agree with that, it’s odd, the “Conservatives” who are thought provoking and loyalty inducing are not coy about their beliefs and principles, and at the moment, Malkin, Coulter, Bachmann, are the ones in public saying what they think.

The DC type MSM ersatz “Conservatives” are running for the tall grass, the politico Republicans are running for the tall grass, mostly it is the Women who are roaring for Conservatism.

I mean seriously, Rich Lowry v Ann Coulter?

No contest..again...

Those homeless people, those mental patients, those senile, those hypnotized kiddies, those street bums... people like that will keep the economy going and will subscribe to all those lefty news outlets. Yeah, things are looking up already. LOL

We can get along fine without most of the so called Conservative Pundits I see on TV or in print.

Most don't know the difference between a Blackberry and a dingle-berry.

“Right-leaning media brace for shutout”

Do some real investigative reporting. Should be a wide open field. The left-leaning media hasn’t been and won’t be doing it.
