Jefferson asks to extend disaster food stamps for Orleans

A day after Louisiana's request for a second month of disaster food stamps for 13 parishes was denied, Congressman William Jefferson calls for an extension of eligibility for Orleans Parish.
Jefferson sent a letter to the USDA requesting it to reverse its decision and give Orleans resident an additional month of food stamps benefits.
The state asked for the extra benefits for residents in Acadia, Allen, Beauregard, Jefferson Davis, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, Sabine, St. Martin, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Vernon parishes.
Congressman Jefferson says many Orleans residents are still struggling to rebuild following not only Hurricane Gustav, but also after Hurricane Katrina's flooding.
Jefferson says, "At a time when the nation is bailing out investment bankers and considering the bailout of our automobile industry, it is important to remember real people who may be in need. Extending DFSP eligibility to Orleans Parish, within the limits already defined by the DFSP program, will simply make available an opportunity to people who may be in need."
The Department of Social Services Interim Secretary also disagrees with the USDA's decision, but encourages residents to seek help through the state's regular food stamp program.
Last month, the USDA approved the department's request for extra benefits in seven parish, including Jefferson and Terrebonne.
He has enough bribe loot to cover them all.
I wonder if Jefferson’s got any room in that freezer of his to fit a few USDA Grade A porterhouse steaks, or is it just too crowded?
Maybe because he has ties to Kenya? Wait a second - so does Hussein Obomber - the next US president.
Uh, oh...
Didn’t he even get a promotion?
I’m beginning to feel as though I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole.
Prepare for more of the same, and have it allowed.
The gimmees voted for obama, and he will not dissapoint. I dont think they really understand what they voted for though.
May I wish that we do get 60 senate seats for the Dems, to show how fast this country can go to hell in a handbasket. After all, the world doesnt end in 2012.. things that are broken can be fixed.
2 reasons; black democrat
What a racist statement.
Katrina may cost as much as four years of war
Government certain to pay more than $200 billion following hurricane
The final accounting could approach the more than $300 billion spent in four years to fight in Afghanistan and Iraq.

An Unnatural Disaster: A Hurricane Exposes the Man-Made Disaster of the Welfare State
What explains bands of thugs using a natural disaster as an excuse for an orgy of looting, armed robbery, and rape? What causes unruly mobs to storm the very buses that have arrived to evacuate them, causing the drivers to speed away, frightened for their lives? What causes people to attack the doctors trying to treat patients at the Superdome?
Why are people responding to natural destruction by causing further destruction? Why are they attacking the people who are trying to help them?
What Hurricane Katrina exposed was the psychological consequences of the welfare state. What we consider “normal” behavior in an emergency is behavior that is normal for people who have values and take the responsibility to pursue and protect them. People with values respond to a disaster by fighting against it and doing whatever it takes to overcome the difficulties they face. They don’t sit around and complain that the government hasn’t taken care of them. And they don’t use the chaos of a disaster as an opportunity to prey on their fellow men.
But what about criminals and welfare parasites? Do they worry about saving their houses and property? They don’t, because they don’t own anything. Do they worry about what is going to happen to their businesses or how they are going to make a living? They never worried about those things before. Do they worry about crime and looting? But living off of stolen wealth is a way of life for them.
People living in piles of their own trash, while petulantly complaining that other people aren’t doing enough to take care of them and then shooting at those who come to rescue themthis is not just a description of the chaos at the Superdome. It is a perfect summary of the 40-year history of the welfare state and its public housing projects.
The welfare stateand the brutish, uncivilized mentality it sustains and encouragesis the man-made disaster that explains the moral ugliness that has swamped New Orleans. And that is the story that no one is reporting.
what’s the difference, many of you a defending Stevens, because he is “our” guy.
///they both should do jail time.
I've worked a pedi rehab unit where most of the kids are welfare children going on the 4th generation. The young Moms are demanding, surly and lazy.... not wanting to participate in their child's care. (which is a required condition for discharge to home) I actually had one tell me......."I pay your paycheck and you'll do what I tell you to." (she refused to feed or change her baby while there....but didn't want to listen to her cry or smell)
I quickly let her know you have to work and pay taxes to consider yourself a member of that club. She was only one... in a sea of those I dealt with at that facility......who had the same mentality. Sad.
