“This wannabe patriot brought eternal shame on himself by the means he used and proudly admitted to the world of how he avoided the draft during the unpleasantness in Vietnam...”

I served during the Gulf war, Kosovo, Somalia and Afganistan. I enlisted then re-enlisted during times of war, knowing that I could be deployed at any time. I love my country from the bottom of my heart.

Knowing what we now do about Vietnam, I would NOT have gone.

>>My only problem with restricting suffrage to property owners is that there are plenty of high income people who pay a lot of taxes who do not own property.

>Agreed. Voting should be limited to people who actually pay income taxes, but we all know that would never fly

I agree with the goal but consider those who choose not to participate in this insanity but get by through homesteading and bartering for example. Many of these people own property but won't show up on the income tax rolls.

"Knowing what we now do about Vietnam, I would NOT have gone."

The real question you should ask yourself - is what would you have done THEN - before you knew your government would betray the effort?

For whatever reason - it is my belief that if one wishes to refuse the Draft, there are honorable means to do so.
Nugent elected to dishonorable means....

His current bravado will never change that.

The other person who posted to me said that some people who pay taxes don't own property.

How about a civics/economics test first before a vote can be cast?

"So you’re are going to do to Ted Nugent, what the left does to us all time.

I've always believed it was best to know the truth, rather than accept mythes..

Our recent elections should have taught us the lesson of the damage that can result from believing myths and following false heroes.

Americans have gotten into a lot of messes, honoring and believing the wrong folks....

In America, we have plenty of real patriots, real heroes, real leaders --- but unfortunately, they don't perform in front of cameras, play guitar or whore themselves out to the media.

Americans will reap the consequences of their shallow character and unseemly worship of "stars"...

More Americans need to recognize the Liberty and Freedoms they have before they lose them - following myths, not men.

Anyone wanting to see the REAL patriots, the REAL heroes - need to simply visit their nearest Military Cemetery and quietly reflect on what those men fought for and won for us and others....

Nugent had his opportunity - and he "blinked".
He current "persona" -- doesn't and can't change that.
I suspect it troubles him greatly.

Now your talking, I think there should be a standard.

And pray tell, who is going to write the standards for such a test?

I can see it now:

Do you support global warming?

Do you own a gun?

What kind of a gun? A hunting gun or a personal weapon?

Do you love animals?

Do you eat meat?

No thank you. Stick with property owner; real property...4 wheelers not acceptable as property.

True many very wealthy rent. Persons who live in NYC or similar circumstances, but eliminating them might not be a bad idea seeing as how they vote.

Now your talking, I think there should be a standard. Yup. We could also add that candidates show a birth certificate to prove Constitutional eligibility to become POTUS

I was thinking more along the lines of 'who is the current officeholder' or 'how long will the office be held'. I do understand (and agree with) your concerns but either choice is going to cause problems. Maybe we are looking at too narrow of a solution. I fear the consequences of doing nothing are worse than trying to do something.

You make my point.

You are assuming that you or someone with your political views will write the test.

Ha! We should be so lucky.

I don't follow movie stars that much. Maybe he was a lib at the time? I would agree with you if he was talking as a patriot and avoided the draft then he is no patriot.

If he was a stupid lib caught up in the liberal movement then I can understand, don't agree but can understand the change of opinion.

"Then how about Newt Gingrich?"

Newt is an intellegent man with the sterling ability to voice with clarity the PRINCIPALS Conservatives believe in...

Newt's personal character and ethics, unfortunately didn't meet the same high levels of accomplishment.

Of course - this is just one old man's opinion....who reached this age by careful assessment of men.
I learned very early in life the necessity of "measuring" men with care --- mistakes would have cost lives.

Google Ted Nugent and the Draft..... You wouldn’t believe it if I simply told you -— So do your own research..

I just did and didn't see a credible source. The vast majority were posted by liberal weeny warmer fags and anti-gun dipshits. Not to say this isn't true but the first few pages were BS.

If there is a real credible source I would like to see it.

McCain had no marketable answer to Obama's charge because McCain knew that attempting to explain the economy to dumb people is impossible in 30-second commercials.

The reason McCain couldn't counter Obama's plan effectively is because McCain isn't a true believer in Reaganomics. He mouthed the words he thought he had to say to win but there was no conviction behind those words.

You can lead a horse to water - but you can't make it drink...
Folks will believe what they WANT to believe...

When I first heard of the Draft Dodger angle - it bothered me.

I searched the Internet, attempting to find ONE case of where Nugent made an attempt to deny being a Draft Dodger.
He quibbles about the details, but STILL ACKNOWLEDGES he dodged the draft.

Some sources I've found somewhat credible in the past...
