Huck unloads on Mitt; Romney camp hits back

Mike Huckabee is using his new book, out this week, to settle a few scores, not the least of which is with his fierce primary rival, Mitt Romney.

Per Michael Scherer, Huckabee picks up where he left off earlier this year, tweaking Romney as a rich guy and firing what may be the first shots of the 2012 primary.

Romney, Huckabee, writes, was "anything but conservative until he changed the light bulbs in his chandelier in time to run for president.”

At another point, Huckabee portrays a Romney proposal to encourage more investment in the market as, "Let them eat stocks!”

The former Arkansas governor also takes a shot at Fred Thompson – who ensured his defeat in the pivotal South Carolina primary – as well as those evangelical leaders who didn’t get behind his bid.

But none of these people may emerge again in four years as political rivals of Huckabee.

Asked to respond, Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said Huckabee was acting small.

“This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee,” Fehrnstrom. “If we’re going to move the party forward, we need to offer more than personal recriminations. Unfortunately, in this book, Mike Huckabee is consumed with presumed slights, and he seems more interested in settling scores than in bringing people together.”

I’d take Romney over the Huckster anyday. At least Romney has some intelligence, which I think the Huckster is lacking.

Ahh... you want 2012 to be worse than 2008.

What is he bitter about? He waged a religious war (vs. Romney) and he won, ushering his pal McCain in as our candidate.

Besides, Huck is in the wrong party with his socialist talk.

Siding with a fraud?

Romney was the biggest fraud in the primaries. Huckabee, if nothing else, hits the nail squarely on the head with his chandalier comment.

And you think Palin was slaughtered by the Socialists. Put this group up on stage and see what happens.

Can we buy a break here?

Save the bandwidth

Huck and Mitt are irrelevant.
Both they and their sons, no military service.
They campaigned like it was 1952

It will be Palin and Jendal.

I agree, none of the ‘08 GOP Presidential nominees should run again in ‘12! I think doing so will almost guarantee a loss, even against the moron we will have as President in 2012!

The GOP should go with their base of base! A Palin/Jindall or Jindall/Palin ticket would be their best bet as of today. Of course everything could be askew by 2012. But, guessing right now, I think one of the above pairings would be the GOP’s best ticket.

Even as a Libertarian, I would vote for either of the above GOP tickets in 2012 - over any Libertarian nominee that I can think of being offered.

(Miller County, Arkansas) Two boy scout counselors, 17 year old Clayton Frady and 18 year old David Huckabee, the son of Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, have admitted to catching a stray dog during their summer session at Camp Pioneer in Hatfield, AR, and hanging the dog by his neck, slitting his throat and stoning him to death.

And didn't Huckabee senior use his governor superpowers to get the charges removed or reduced?

Who pissed in your coffee? I was merely making the point that McCain is no conservative, and we would have fared better with Romney.

From the exit polls in the primaries, when asked who they would have voted for had Huckabee not been in the race, the vast majority responded with McCain. This does not support the “stalking horse for McCain” theory. I was 100% for Fred, but I don’t think he could have parlayed a SC win into enough to stop McCain this year. The aisle-crosser got too much momentum from the open primaries.

A Palin/Jindall ticket with Jindall’s already proven steps to refuse to bow to the unions and the State Congress about fiscal restraint, along with Palin’s continued fiscal approach, there is no reason to think that the GOP will not win in 2012.

Everyone knows that Senator Obama and this Congress is going to spend money like a drunken sailor on two weeks leave after being at sea for six months! And just like the sailor, when he wakes with a hangover, no money and three new tattoos, he goes back to the ship and just drudges along for six months! Life still sucks, you still have to work your butt off and all you get to show for it is three tattoos!

We need Palin, or someone like her if only to clear the deck of these two has beens. Nobody wants a SixSigmaSlickster such as Rumknee. Hucklebee really disgraced himself attacking Rumknee's religion.

"firing what may be the first shots of the 2012 primary.

These guys are both done. I caucused for Romney, but I will not be there for him in 2012, and I definitely won't be there for Huck. Romney was not capable of a brad reach, and Huck was just playing submariner. Good-bye to them both.

It doesn’t have anything to do with me, it is just what all of the Christian churches agree on.

"The former Arkansas governor also takes a shot at....... those evangelical leaders who didn’t get behind his bid.

What? I'm an evangelical and therefore I have an obligation to vote for an evangelical????? Of all people, evangelicals have a history of appreciation for separation of church and state. Yes, my politics are informed by my faith, but "Better to be ruled by a wise Turk, than a foolish Christian."
