ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens dropped further behind Democrat Mark Begich in his re-election bid Tuesday as the convicted felon's 85th birthday became a grueling wait that could determine whether his decades-long hold on power is over.
The longest-serving Republican in the history of the Senate trailed the Anchorage mayor by 2,374 votes out of 290,198 counted as election officials continued tallying absentee and other ballots. Begich had led by about 1,000 votes before Tuesday's count.

Funny that these Democrats keep finding votes.
“...as the convicted felon’s 85th birthday became a grueling wait that could determine whether his decades-long hold on power is over.”
Give it up, Ted. You’re acting like a Democrat.
the convicted felon’s 85th birthday .................... OK, I’m an old fart now, but these octogenarians are long over due in their service in Congress. There should be term limits of no more than 12 years for any Senator.
So Begich wins in 2008. Then in 2010, Sarah Palin runs for reelection as Governor. It seems her second term would end in 2014, allowing her to run against Begich in 2014, assuming she doesn’t win the Presidency in 2012.
Yea, the dam convicted fool Stevens ought to bow out. He was caught and has had years to secure his fortune. We are going to see Alaska go Dem for his seat. Thanks you old fool.
The ‘Rats just keep playing into our hands. Bwahahahaha!
“Funny that these Democrats keep finding votes.”
Umm, isn’t Alaska run by Republicans?
If the man is a convicted felon, he should not be allowed to run for office.
The Rats just keep playing into our hands. Bwahahahaha!
Well our hands are dirty and we are playing right into the democrats hands.
In this case its actually legit. The absentee ballots came in for the Dem. This is an R state with a small population so liberal funny bussiness wouldn’t be worth a couple thousand votes.
