Gov. Janet Napolitano's spokeswoman confirmed Thursday that U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Phoenix) called to congratulate her on being the "top contender' for the job of Secretary of Homeland Security in President-elect Barack Obama's Cabinet.

A release put out by McCain Thursday said:

"Senator McCain called and congratulated Governor Janet Napolitano on her emergence as top contender for Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Senator McCain said 'Governor Napolitano's experience as the former U.S. Attorney for Arizona, Arizona's Attorney General, and as Governor warrants her rapid confirmation by the Senate and I hope she is quickly confirmed.' Senator McCain looks forward to working with her throughout the nomination process."

Good gosh how did we ever wind up with him as our nominee? It was all said and done by time the primaries in my state, AL, so we never even had a say.

Guess the washed-up old white man is hoping to get some pull in the new administration. I’m sure he’ll be co-sponsoring some Democrat bill shortly.

“Old Soldiers never die, they just fade away”, became an accepted part of US lore in previous generations. It still applies.

McCain is, has been and always will be a moron. A review of Napolitano’s bio shows she has been a lawyer all of her career. That experience qualifies her to be a lawyer, not the chief administrator of homeland security. I fear for the future of our once great country.

They keep telling us here in GA that Saxby is all that will stand between us and the Democrats, but with McCain in there the Dem’s already have the votes.

Napolitano is highly partisan and has been an unmitigated disaster for Arizona.

She christened herself the “education governor” when she came to office and has succeeded in plunging Arizona schools to dead last place in the Nation’s school measurements.

She is an OPEN BORDERS advocate and did everything to stall any voter initiatives to curb illegal immigration. She then made political postures to make herself look good like deploying the Arizona National Guard to the border- trouble was, they had no guns and spent their time as auto mechanics or clerks- they were never allowed to patrol the border or ever challenge an illegal.

Crime in phoeins has SKYROCKETED since she came to office, much of it drug gang or coyote related.

Arizona continues to suffer a string of deaths at the hands of illegals, several police officers have been murdered, and just last weekend a drunken illegal killed a 17 year old girl in a traffic accident - Napolitano does nothing, didn’t even acknowledge the problem.

The upside to Napolitano leaving is that Arizona gets Republican Jan Brewer as Governor.

Janet Napolitano will “lead” DHS?!? Could at least security positions be filled with able people? I guess, not.

Folks are missing the point. McCain is trying to encourage her so she doesn’t face him in 2010.
