Not quite true. Common sense and old-fashioned values are dead in California, at least for 55% of the voting population.
GOPers to be successful must be telegenic and cool. That's how they will get votes from middle-of-the-roaders who are otherwise inclined Democratic.
I have many liberal friends who wouldn't vote Republican if their life depended on it yet voted for Schwarzenegger. They didn't see it as a contradiction. And remember, the original Arnold campaign from 2003 was a conservative campaign.
If you think the GOP is dead in our state, take a look at a recently announced candidate, Chuck DeVore. He's an Assemblyman from Costa Mesa and has just announced he is running against Barbara Boxer. He just might be the next Reagan. His website is easy to find and his videos are all over Youtube. For now at least, his campaign will be running on energy -- more nuclear plants in California, and drilling offshore.
I disagree. The last thing the GOP needs is to be finding some RHINO ground in order to attract middle-of-the-roaders.
If the GOP keeps pushing candidates who’ll play footsie with the middle, we’re screwed. Best thing that could happen to California is for Republicans to unite behind an anti-illegal, anti-amnesty, pro-border security, conservative candidate and clean up that state. Here’s to hoping that 2012 we can unite, conservatively, to do the same nationally.
