What works in France
The American Thinker ^ | 23 November, 2008 | David Paulin

Today, the NYT has a big piece about how traditional cafes all over France are going by the wayside -- all, according to the NYT, because of "changing attitudes, habits and now a poor economic climate."

France's poor economic climate is singled out by the NYT for the quickening demise of France's cafes, with the paper quoting one red-eyed cafe owner as saying: “People fear the future, and now with the banking crisis, they are even more afraid. They buy a bottle at the supermarket and they drink it at home.”

Yet who do you suppose is doing well all over France? Well, none other than...McDonald's!

One can only concur. A burger at Mickey D's beats overpriced french fare served in an untimely fashion by a bored waiter who openly disdains "foreigners" any day. Scenery isn't quite as good in MacDonalds as it is on those sidewalk cafe's, though.

It’s hammered the hospitality business here and caused a major revenue crisis. (No one in the media wants to talk about it though: “Move along, folks, nothing to see here”.

France is finished for sure. The country will be Muslim in a couple of decades if not sooner. Heck they essentially control Paris as it is. There are huge sections of the country that tradition French people will not go. Most Americans do not know or appreciate the situation the French are in. The MSM has not reported on it. I guess people don't want to see the Emperor running around in his underwear.

You have to register to read the NYT article. Didn’t they try that around 2 years ago and give it up?

Seems they haven’t learned ANYTHING from that experience.

Well when I eat somewhere I expect a roof, pest control and A/C...

I don't want to sit outside with the flies, gnats and burning sun...

Restaurants are one of the first indications of an economy. They are one of the first things people give up when money gets tight. Most of the resturants in South Fl. are still crowed on week ends.

The bugs are a great source of supplemental protein. Those big Cinzano umbrellas mitigate the sun. Just think of what you’re missing!

Yeah, I know. I won’t register with those morons, either.

The muslim population and their problems there is a tremendously under reported issue. They are typical problems of liberalism, or socialism, though, and so are never reported upon unless they blow up. That will likely not be far off on the horizon. Our own slum/crime problems practically go away when libs are running the show. Makes socialism look bad.

What also works in France is nuclear power...80% of the electricity in France is from nukes. Despite the demise of French cafes, the French will four years hence not be waiting in the dark for the wind to blow, the sun to heat up the solar collectors or the government’s daily ration of electric power.

“What also works in France is nuclear power.”

Very good point. It’s the one thing France got right, and without it France probably would have collapsed years ago. Of course, our home grown leftists, who adore everything french, still refuse to allow nuke power here because it would help make America stronger and even more independent.....

...can’t have that, now, can we!?
