UK: Builder forces gipsies off his land... by digging a moat around their camp
The Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | November 26, 2008

Posted on 11/26/2008 8:34:44 AM PST by Stoat

Builder Francis Shiner resorted to the measures when two gipsy families set up home on the disused car park of a building site in Bedford.

He asked them to move but they didn't. So he went on the offensive and managed to evict them within 48 hours.

He said: 'We went to speak to them and asked them to leave because we intended starting development work. They refused and said they would go the next day.'

To make clear how determined he was, his workers surrounded them with 20 panels of 8ft-high metal fencing but left a 5ft gap for them to leave through.

'We immediately decided to secure the site and left them a small gap so that they could go by 9am the next day, but they were still there in the morning,' said Mr Shiner.

In response, Mr Shiner sent in a digger to create a 4ft deep moat around the outside of the fencing, telling the families to move or be trapped. He also issued a writ.

They could have been trapped by a 4 ft moat! Hey, I’ve got an idea for how we can secure our southern border ...

I'm sure that our friend Backhoe would be delighted to submit a bid for digging a moat along the entire southern border of the United States   :-)

What is happening to the world? Moats are back. Pirates are back (at far more than the usual rate). Even Socialism is back - with an Affirmative Action socialist whose vice president describes him as “articulate and bright and clean”. What else is going to return: the Crusades, the Plague, or both?

Actually, you might notice that Michelle is usually about 3 paces behind Obama. Occasionally she tries to move up along side him, and then he says ...

My relatives in Ireland recently told me that some tinkers had set up camp in the center of the island formed by a round-a-bout (traffic circle). They had to be paid over a million euro in order to get rid of them.

A little background here on this business. First of all the politically correct persons declared the word "Gypsy" a forbidden word. This was because over the years it became a word of contempt, not the romantic versions. The word became "Travellers".

Then the people who were claimants to the original and known "gypsies" became angered. They did not want to be known as "Travellers". So, once again the word became sort of accepted. Now the England and Wales births, marriages and deaths registry, was very meticulous. It was instituted in 1837. The census proper was started in 1851. Every ten years they knocked on doors. The 1841 census not too comprehensive.

Researchers have shown that only 5000 to 7000 persons exist in the UK as having any lineage to "Gypsy" that would go to 1901. There are reputed 95,000 "travellers" adrift and living off welfare benefits in that country. They are protected by the "human rights" acts as sort of being like gypsies.

The census is the arbiter of many claims. It outed Charlie Chaplin who claimed he was descended from Jewish people. Looked good. He was descended from Protestant French. (Chuckle).

Invaders should be harshly dealt with, the old fashioned way. Our ancestors were made of sterner stuff.

An agitated skunk up wind of the parking lot might have provided a gentle motivation to leave as well.

I admit that gypsies are one group that I totaly prejudge, having had experiences with them in my town, where they scammed the elderly.

I'm very sorry to hear that.  There's a special place in Hell for trash who take advantage of our Seasoned Citizens and treat them poorly or criminally.

I had a skunk run into my garage in San Diego. He decided to settle down under my Porsche 914. My wife quietly set a "Hav-a-hart" trap with hot dogs for bait. That has the advantage of keeping the tail down. Once trapped, we put a tarp over the trap, loaded it into the back of our Toyota pickup and release the skunk back into the local canyon. There was no need or desire to agitate that one.
