He may have been aiming at center of mass. Not everybody is a good a shot as you or me. :)

“having a weapon under disability”

Any idea what this means? Never heard of it.
Thanks

The teens recognized two out three of the men, according to their mother, who spoke with the Star Beacon Monday.

It sounds as if they got into bad company, at school or visiting the neighboring city. And that company must have figured they were worth robbing.

I'd also be a little worried about these perps or their friends coming back to take it out on this family. I hope they'll be careful.

“I guess you’re talking about a minor possessing a handgun. Actually, it looks like he could do so legally, if he has written permission from a parent or guardian.”

No. I am told there is a specific California law that makes it illegal for a gun owner to leave it in a house where a person in the household under the age of 18 can access it.

A few years ago, a family had stored their guns this way, and the adults were gone when a crazy with a pitchfork broke in. The 14 year old girl who had been taught how to use the guns was able to escape with one of her siblings. By the time the police got there and shot the madman, her other two siblings had been killed. To this day, the grandmother believes that the California law caused the death of her grandchildren.

Yesterday I went to pick up an application for a CWP. This is a very conservative county in Michigan. I had to stand in line. There was a female lawyer behind me getting one too. I told the lady behind the bullet proof glass; “I thought everyone in this county ALREADY HAD ONE.” She laughed and said they have been busier than heck with permits to purchase and CWPs.

One question - isn't there an issue with a 15 year old having access to a load weapon?

I hope my son is a better shot when he's 15 but he won't have access to the gun safe.

I don't think so. You can't transfer a weapon to a minor on a 4473, but otherwise I believe it's fine...if parents approve.

His aim's just a hair too low.

Could also be that he was dead-on vertically, but pulled his shot just a little to the left or right...

;>)

IOW, parents that own (possess) a gun must anticipate that a threatening situation such as this might require their children to take defensive action, and place on file a written permission for their children to “borrow” their father’s gun to defend themselves, in the unlikely but possible event that such becomes necessary.
Would the boy’s emergency “borrowing” of his father’s gun, to defend himself and his brother, constitute illegal “possession” of a firearm?

I don’t know the answer to that. I don’t like the law, but just looked it up to see what the law is. It sounds to me like the parent or guardian has to write a permission slip of some kind...probably best to have it notarized.

I imagine the idea is to go after gangsta types who are unlikely to have said parental permission.
