I saw a vid clip about him being in a new show and wondered how he could do that in his condition. It’s sad.

could do that in his condition. It’s sad.

I’m not a doctor...but I suspect his intestinal fortitude, backed up
by therapuetics (including painkillers) maybe eased his last year.
And allowed him to finish at least his part of the show.

He must have been signed to do the production well before the cancer
was detected or obviously affecting him.
Hollywood, despite the liberal banter about compassion, doesn’t like
to sign a star that may not make it through filming of movie or
years of series on TV/cable.

Richard Roundtree (of the “Shaft” movie fame) was IIRC, sick with
some sort of lung problem and kept it secret from all his bosses,
coworkers and crew in order to keep his job.
(Not on “Shaft” but some sort of production he did maybe 15 years ago.)
