After pursuit in Santa Rosa, 7 men arrested on weapons charges, 1 held for drugs
Seven men carrying an illegal arsenal of assault weapons and an eighth man suspected of selling marijuana were arrested in Santa Rosa early Tuesday.
Officials said the arrests were made just in time.
"We believe they were going to commit a crime out of the county," said Lt. Tim Duke with the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department. "A crime was stopped."
Deputies received an anonymous tip just after midnight Monday that a Chevy Tahoe SUV and a pickup with multiple passengers who had illegal assault weapons were driving into Sonoma County.
Deputies spotted the vehicles heading southbound on Highway 101 at the Highway 12 interchange.
After a brief pursuit, the sport utility vehicle was stopped on Myrtlewood Drive in Santa Rosa and the truck was stopped at a convenience store on Corby Avenue.
Searches turned up one loaded pistol, four assault rifles, one loaded shotgun, a short-barreled shotgun with a pistol grip, six loaded assault-rifle magazines, and two types of shotgun ammunition, Duke said.
A Myrtlewood Drive home associated with the drivers and passengers was searched Wednesday morning, detectives said.
A large amount of processed marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found, and resident Jose Flores Lopez, 30, was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale, Duke said.
Elezandro Medina Solereo, 23; Margarito Bautista Guzman, 42; Jose Luis Sosa-Lopez, 21; Ismael Sosa-Lopez, 23; Everado Flores Lopez, 28; and Francisco Javier Reyes, 20, all of Santa Rosa were arrested on suspicion of carrying loaded firearms and possessing assault rifles.
Juan Alejandro Ornela-Bermudez, 23, of San Rafael was arrested on the same charges.
Solereo, Ornela-Bermudez, Guzman, Jose Luis Sosa-Lopez and Ismael Sosa-Lopez also were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime.
All of the men were being held without bail at Sonoma County Jail.
They are expected in court Monday.
Sounds like an undercover officer made a call here.
Sounds like keeping and bearing arms to me.

Fixed.

Fear Discourages US Residents From Visiting Mexico
NOGALES, Ariz., Nov. 29, 2008
[snip]Shootings, grenade attacks and even beheadings have plagued other Mexican border cities such as Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez for years but they have only recently arrived full-force in Nogales, Mexico, and the state of Sonora.
Gunmen from drug-trafficking organizations have primarily targeted rival groups, but police and soldiers also have been caught in the violence. The Sonora state police director was ambushed at a central Nogales hotel in early November.
The Mexican city’s tourism-dependent economy has been paralyzed by gun battles occurring even in daylight on public streets, near stores and in restaurants within a few miles of the border.

I don’t think the Second Amendment applies, or was ever meant to apply, to Mexican illegals running drugs into the country. It is a constitutional right of American citizens, not illegal invaders.
Hmmm...sounds like a plot from one of those B-Grade Movies:
ARTICLE SNIPPET from your link: “Cervantes served as police commander of a nearby town and allegedly helped Villa Ortega kidnap and kill the victims, many of whom were believed to be rival drug dealers.”
So now we have Mexican (I assume illegals) crossing the border back into Mexico to kill Mexicans???
Man, somebody stop this thing, I want off this planet.
Here’s the video report from CBS tonight about the threat that is Mexico.

Precisely, Cicero. It’s against the law for an alien to possess a gun.
As a Law Abiding Citizen of the State, who happens to own a duly Registered Assault Weapon, (i.e. scary looking semi automatic center fire gun with a pistol grip and 30 round magazine), I am shocked.
I thought making these weapons illegal and forcing Law Abiding folks like me to Register them would mean an end to these type of Criminal activities. Don't these Perps have to follow the Law like I did?
“Don’t these Perps have to follow the Law like I did? “
Evidently not.
