Estefan’s “I Can’t Stay Away From You” is also very sad, and a better song, IMHO.

“When It’s Time To Go” by 4Him.

I cried like a baby the first time I heard it, and tear up every time since.

It’s called “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan. She wrote it about a musician she knew who had overdosed.

Oh, “Sylvia’s Mother” is a good one!

I just thought of a few, too.

“The Girl From Yesterday” (the Eagles), “Wild World” (Cat Stevens) and “Please Come to Boston” (Jackopierce).

“Please Come to Boston” is especially sad for me: “Oh, ramblin’ boy why don’t you settle down? Boston ain’t your kind of town. There ain’t no gold and there ain’t nobody like me.”

Ah, youth...
Regards,

If you have broken up with the love of your life and really want to be sad, then listen to this one by Ian and Sylvia Tyson. Ian wrote it and it has been recorded by many.

Think I’ll go out to Alberta,
Weather’s good there in the fall.
I got some friends that I can go to working for,
Still I wish you’d change your mind
If I asked you one more time,
But we’ve been through that a hundred times or more.

Four strong winds that blow lonely,
Seven seas that run high,
All those things that don’t change, Come what may.
but our good times are all gone,
And I’m bound for moving on.
I’ll look for you if I’m ever back this way.

If I get there before the snow flies,
And if things are going good,
You could meet me if I send you down the fare.
But by then it would be winter
there ain’t much for you to do
And the wind sure can blows cold way out there

Four strong winds that blow lonely,
Seven seas that run high,
All those things that don’t change, Come what may.
but our good times are all gone,
And I’m bound for moving on.
I’ll look for you if I’m ever back this way.
