Never even heard half of them.
I got the pelosi blues again
Hands down fabulous. She had The Voice.
I could go with 5,6, and 7 on the list. My personal choice for most heart wrenching isn’t there, though. Whispering Winds, by Patti Page. “Whispering winds, don’t whisper to me of a love that can never be.” ... not on Youtube!
Allison Krause~Ghost In This House
rotflmao!
Johnny Cash singing “You Are My Sunshine” is one of the saddest songs of all time.
Any list that doesn’t have this song on it does not count.
Can anything match, “Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor On The Bedpost Overnight”? Or how about some the great songs by Alvin and the Chipmunks? Always brought tears to my eyes, lemme tell ya!
Also have to wonder why “Jolene” by Dolly Parton isn’t on the list.
What an incredibly sad song, true and from the heart of Dolly.

Just listened to 17 Soft Cell: “Say Hello, Wave Goodbye,”
Criky that was bad!
Example:
Missing you is just a part of living
Missing you is just a way of life
I'm living out the life that I've been given
But baby, I still wish you were mine.
And:
I cannot take the heat
I guess I'm letting go
I'm tired of stitching up my dreams with
This thread of hope
I'm still a believer of
Twin hearts and timeless love
And all I ever wanted was
The feeling I had with us
Hows about Johnny Cash’s “flushed from the bathroom of your heart”? L0L
Poignant, or haunting, rather than heartbreaking...Harry’s Theme by Clanad
“Tell Laura I Love Her” - a real tearjerker. None of this pretend stuff.
Or “Endless Sleep”
Try “Running Bear”
“Sunday Morning Coming Down” is wrenching. And beautiful.
Inever thought much of Johnny Cash until I heard “Hurt”. What a song.
Listen to all the lyrics of “You Are My Sunshine”.
“...But now you’ve left me and love another;
You have shattered all of my dreams:.”
My kids never hear that verse. heh
Replace it with my song in post #12. Dolly Parton wrote it and sang it from the heart.
I have Tell Laura I Love Her by Johnny Rivers.
Will check out the others.
“The Obama Theme Song”
Whatever it may be, it makes me cry just to think of it...... :^)
Just downloaded it. That’s real music!
Temptations: I Wish it Would Rain.
I’m just a sentimental fool.
bump for later
This might seem wildly out of place on this thread but “She’s Gone” by Black Sabbath is quite a heart wrencher.
I assume that’s “Harry’s Game” on Anam by Clannad?
No, not out of place. It is one of those all time sad songs as well. I also like “You won’t change me” by the same.
That’s why I couldn’t find it. Thank’s!
Sabbath has a number of them... Hand of Doom...
For sheer tearjerking, it’s got to be about a child, for me.
Can’t keep dry eyes even in public if I hear “Butterfly Kisses” or “Tears in Heaven.” But at least I can keep it to one tear or a misty eye. If I hear “Dance With My Father Again” by Luther Vandross, I am afraid I probably will be sobbing. I only hope I’m not in the carpool lane on the freeway driving 80 mph at the time.
For breakups, I think the best heartbreaking line is in Eric Clapton’s “Bellbottom Blues”: “Do you want to see me crawl across the floor to you? Do you want to hear me beg you to take me back...” And for breakups that are your own fault, a good one is Stevie Wonder’s “Who poured the love out?”
“Tell Laura I Love Her” was the first song that popped into my mind. A very pretty song, but the lyrics are really sad.
Another one is “A Dear John Letter”, still not as sad as ‘Tell Laura I love Her’, though
And there’s this one Engelbert Humperdinck sings
“I Never Said Goodbye”
She cried and walked away just yesterday
And like a fool, I let her go
We had a silly fight the night before
I never said “I love you so”
I wept all day and then I got the call
“Would you please come to see your wife”
“Something has happened and it’s very grave”
“We cannot save the lady’s life”
No, I never said goodbye and I never really told her
Just how much she meant to me
No, I never said goodbye, now it’s too late
And she’s just a memory
How can I go on
Now that girl is gone
I will know, until I die
I never said goodbye
Her perfume lingers all around me now
A pair of shoes lie on the floor
The bed unmade, where just last night, she laid
I cannot say I closed the door
A shopping list of things she’ll never buy
An apron lyin’ on the chair
Is that her laugh I hear out in the hall
I turn and call, but she’s not there
listen to the lyrics... melancholy.
Kenny Rogers “Ruby, Don’t take your love to town”
You reminded me of another song..."Juniors Eyes" ...I'm sure DB will agree it's a tearjerker.
How anything by Softcell and Abba made that list is beyond me. I will confess to having had the first Softcell tape but I was a dough headed middle school er. Abba? That was my sisters department - brother, that is one horrible concoction of schmaltzy cotton candy style music.
Yes. That's the one I was going to mention. A heart broken by a faithless lover will heal in a month. A heart broken when a child dies will never heal.
Cherish is the word I use to describe
All the feeling that I have hiding here for you inside
You don't know how many times I've wished that I had told you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could hold you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could Mold you into someone who could
Cherish me as much as I cherish you
Perish is the word that more than applies
To the hope in my heart each time I realize
That I am not gonna be the one to share your dreams
That I am not gonna be the one to share your schemes
That I am not gonna be the one to share what Seems to be the life that you could
Cherish as much as I do yours
Oh I'm beginning to think that man has never found
The words that could make you want me
That have the right amount of letters, just the right sound
That could make you hear, make you see
That you are drivin' me out of my mind
Oh I could say I need you but then you'd realize
That I want you just like a thousand other guys
Who'd say they loved you With all the rest of their lies
When all they wanted was to touch your face, your hands
And gaze into your eyes
Cherish is the word I use to describe
All the feeling that I have hiding here for you inside
You don't know how many times I've wished that I had told you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could hold you
You don't know how many times I've wished that I could Mold you into someone who could
Cherish me as much as I cherish you
And I do cherish you. Cherish is the word...
Another good one... Don Henley, "Heart of the Matter."
I got the call today, I didnt wanna hear
But I knew that it would come
An old, true friend of ours was talkin on the phone
She said youd found someone
And I thought of all the bad luck,
And the struggles we went through
And how I lost me and you lost you
What are these voices outside loves open door
Make us throw off our contentment
And beg for something more?
Im learning to live without you now
But I miss you sometimes
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I knew, Im learning again
Ive been tryin to get down
To the heart of the matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think its about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you dont love me anymore
Here’s my three favorite breakup songs

lol
I like Sweet Lorraine by Patty Griffin. I didn't check, is Luka on the list?
Burning House of Love, by X.
Here’s a very old Irish song performed as well as it can be:
Dead Can Dance - The Wind that Blows the Barley.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find a longer sample... This is just a glimpse...
“Abba? That was my sisters department - brother, that is one horrible concoction of schmaltzy cotton candy style music.”
Ummm...guys can like ABBA. I mean, if a guy were to like ABBA, that’s not exactly the same as assuming he wears his wifes clothing or anything. It’s not like Britney Spears fer goodness sake...I mean I’m just sayin.
If you want to start your day with a downer you can always listen to Terry Jacks in Seasons In The Sun
Has to be sad sounding, you know the deal, violins, chellos, wailing voice, desparing lyrics yadda yadda wassa wassa.
Bon Jovi heartwrenching? go to your room!
Nah, not tearjerkers. Just perfect breakup songs, LOL
