$7M FOR PALIN BOOK? MAYBE
NY Post ^ | November 30, 2008 | Liz Smith

I really don't want to write the following item, but it's happening, so who am I to quibble? The hottest thing going in the fairly supine and dormant book publishing world is the ongoing question of the memoir, autobiography, or what have you yet to come from Alaska's governor, Sarah Palin.

Read the whole thing, the part about the guy who thinks print media will need a bailout made me laugh until I realized they would probably get it.

$ 7 million? Not bad for a person who “polls” said caused McShame to lose.

I’ll wait for the commemorative plate collection, I guess.

What could Sarah Palin, age 44, write of a life still so young? Anything she damn well wants to write. The public, it seems, is just waiting to lap it all up like that finger-lickin' moose stew.

Yet, King Obama has written two books (ok, maybe Ayers wrote one of them) about himself and he isn't much older. I wonder if Liz Smith questioned that? Oh nevermind.

I do believe, though, that Palin needs to write a book that talks about political philosophy, namely hers, and her view of conservatism. That will be an important step in establishing whether or not she will ever be a viable candidate for national office again.

I selfishly hope she does nothing that will weaken her chances to be a good, pro-american leader of our party. I hope she does not end up stooping to BO’s level.

Yeah, a book which extolls free markets, free enterprise, drilling, pro-american philosophy, etc. is what I am hoping for. ;)

I LOVE Sarah and would have no problem with her writing a book and bringing in 7 million bucks!

The left media and the Sarah haters in general, had no problem with Hillary cashing in on her book. They also had no problem with her inside trading that earned her 100,000 bucks over night.

I could go on? They also had no problem with all the CRIMES the Clinton`s where involved in.

I think it is great, too!

She should relate the hideous media bias and the hit job MSM did on her during the election.

This man also projected the idea that editors in chief, good journalists and fair-minded publishers should get in a old jalopy together and go to Washington to press the case that the nation's newspapers and magazines also need a bailout from Congress, specifically because they're so important to the future health and democratic well-being of all of us. As magazines and newspapers die and go under, so dies the oversight of a free nation.

I'm not sure just when they went belly-up as conveyors of objective reporting, but the MSM is way beyond triage now. 50 MeV couldn't jump-start the dead heart of the MSM.

Exactly, though that’s not the so

rt of book high-paying publishers will be looking for. The question then would be if she could well merge the two: personal enough for the publishers, but philosophically portentous enough for us conservatives and libertarians—and her perceived gravitas.

My main desire is that she can capitalize on her popularity to actually “teach” americans. You know, stuff like constitutional principles, free markets, american exceptionalism, etc.

I’ll be honest. I still don’t know her stance on some issues. (That’s because she had to go along with McCain).

A Sarah 2010 Pin-up Calendar? Definitely. Particularly if it includes bikinis and guns.

A Sarah Autobiography? Definitely not: not yet. Wait until after she’s been President for 8 years.

Yes, she could be like Condi eight years ago: her ideology shot through with holes supporting affirmative action and centralized big-government solutions to all sorts of problems (e.g., special needs kids, increased educational spending)—but we don’t really know about that.

At least she has a pretty good tax-cutting and expense-trimming record and downright Reaganesque rhetoric on free markets and American exceptionalism. It will be good to get her policies on other issues (e.g., illegal immigration) filled in.

But a publisher surely thinks some campaign-and-tell personal stories would sell more books.

Palin prevented a major McCain loss and a big mandate for “O”. If it had not been for Sarah “ZERO” may have taken all 57 states.

Yes, her talk about special needs kids really raised a red flag with me. I had forgotten about that. Sorry, but government really has no place in that area and she did imply to the parents that she would “help” them - and that always means “money”.

Liz Smith is one of the most tedious, tiresome people still writing.

Her entire worldis New York City and Elaine's Restaurant.

I cannot get through one of her pieces; it just wears me out.

Yes, didn’t she advocate the federal government fully funding parents sending their special needs kids to whatever school of their choice?

Already some of those schools are about $100K a year, but can you just imagine how the costs of such schools would increase—along with the number of kids ‘qualified’ to attend them?

Disagree with that notion, “the government has not place (in dealing with special needs children)”

In a culture of life, such children should be allowed to succeed, they have to be educated in public schools specifically to learn coping skills, and their physical condition requires additional expenditures to made, the Government has a role in insuring that the expenditures do not crush local school budgets via the Federal Mandated Educational opportunities for those kids.
