News channel put our lives at risk: UK couple
LONDON: A British couple caught in the Mumbai terror attacks have complained that a news channel had put their lives at risk by broadcasting their location in the Taj Mahal Hotel.
Lynne and Kenneth Shaw, who live in South Wales, said that terrorists were listening in on the media to pinpoint Western victims. Lynne claimed that CNN had broadcast details of where they were at the hotel.
She has appealed to the media to be careful with the information it broadcasts because safety could be compromised and lives could be lost. The couple returned to Heathrow on Saturday.
Lynne was forced to hide under a table as terrorists stormed the hotel. She and her husband were later rescued by Gurkhas and taken to the Australian embassy for safety.
The couple was at the end of a month-long visit to India and was staying in Mumbai for a few days before heading back to the UK.
We have been asked by the British terror police not to talk to the press. But the reason I would not want to talk to anyone is because our safety was actually compromised by CNN, which broadcast where we were, Lynee said.
The terrorists were watching CNN and they came down from where they were in a lift after hearing about us on TV. For that reason, I would appeal to the media to be very careful about what they broadcast. However, a CNN spokesman said: CNN has received no complaint from any individual regarding our coverage and their safety. We take such matters very seriously.
Just think what CNN has done to America lately.
CNN has done worse.
Gurkahs were there? When were they called in? If they had been there from day one - this would have lasted a day. India should hire as many as they can find. The Indian police and soldiers were a joke at the train station.
CNN irresponsible? The USA MSM irresponsible? They got a fellow traveller of the Mumbai terrorists ...el***ed.
The Shaw's lawyer should contact CNN ASAP.
There was rumor on Twitter community that India was telling CNN get f***k out of the country OR ELSE
Remember when a CNN anchor was standing next to a terrorist sniper shooting at American soldiers in Iraq ?
Official CNN Spokesperson denies any complicity with terrorists!!!
However, a CNN spokesman said: CNN has received no complaint from any individual regarding our coverage and their safety. We take such matters very seriously.
I’m shocked.
Wouldn’t surprise me but who told them where she was at?
Sounds like the CNN team was in league with the terrorists. I think these people should file suit.
CNN has to protect it’s access to terrorist groups just like they withheld information about Saddam’s atrocities to protect their access to his govt. Par for the course for them.
Sorry folks, to the LameStreamMedia it’s just part of the story and they care not a whit about doing what’s right.
If you’re hurt or killed so much the better for their story.
If they get an exclusive from the Tangos on your brutal bloody Rape and Beheading all they see is a Pulitzer prize. They’d sell their own Mum to get one too.
The Journalists are a despicable lot with no Soul.
Dear Mr. & Mrs Shaw,
American media operates on the premise “If it bleeds, it leads (lead story, program, ad nauseam).
So, shore up the dying lamestream media - bleed some. Preferably, on camera.
Do your duty!
;-(
Same old CNN.
No kidding. I need a lot more information before I condemn the news media. I watched a TON of CNN, and I never heard them say, “The Shaws of Great Britain are in room 742”. How would CNN even have known where they were?
And they lie 24-7 and it's getting around about their big lies! Advertisers are starting to take note of the big lies, and how it's getting around!
If it bleeds it leads. These people cannot possibly believe their lives are more important than CNN’s ratings!
Yeah, right! There was a reason India stopped CNN from broadcasting on Friday while this was all going on, they apologized at the time that the Indian government had withdrawn their broadcast permit and there was nothing they could do about it since they broadcast at the privilege of he government.
