ACTION NEEDED: Goochland Co. Supervisors meeting on Tues (from AFP-VA)

Alert: Immediate Action Required!

Friday, November 28, 2008

Tuesday night the Goochland Board of Supervisors will gather and cast a vote on new language to be included in the Comprehensive Plan. If approved, the consequences of these changes on property owners will be paralyzing. Property values and surrounding counties will be compromised. Marketability of real estate will be further diminished and areas of Goochland County will be neglected for important infrastructure investment. Once again, government is trying to tell citizens what they can do with their land. Help send a message to these politicians that the best comprehensive plan is one that offers the most freedom to property owners!

Right now the key to protecting property rights in Goochland County is telling Supervisors Creasey, Butler, Quarles, Pryor, and Eads to vote "No' to changing the language of the County's Comprehensive Plan. We've got their ear - but other pressures could override all our work - unless you help counter the establishment pressure. Radical anti-growth activists are mobilizing to sway the Supervisor’s opinions in Goochland County. We can’t let them win! If they do, Henrico County, Chesterfield County, Louisa County or YOUR county could be next.

Personal Property Rights are under siege more these days than ever. AFP-VA believes we have to maintain these rights or they will be gone forever.

Please contact the supervisors (click here to email them all at once) and urge them to vote "No" on changing the Comprehensive Plan.

If the proposed changes to the Comprehensive Plan are approved, property values will be in jeopardy of becoming stagnant. Parts of Goochland will likely be neglected with important infrastructure investments, including broadband and cellular technology. Each has become essential to emergency communication and business.

Take Action Now

Sincerely,

Benjamin Marchi

Would it be possible for you to post a link to the wording of the proposed changes?

I usually like to know what I am protesting before I sign petitions.

I’m assuming that someone has an idea where Goochland is.

It's the next county west of Henrico, due west of the City of Richmond, VA.

It has been quite rural until recently, but is now undergoing heavy development with the building of state route 288, the circumferential highway well to the west of Richmond.

I was just there this weekend which is why I know this -- my mother in law lives just east of the Goochland county line, in Henrico.

Thanks for the clarification. Since I'm deep in the heart of Texas, I don't suppose I should interfere in a local issue in VA--LOL!

Good luck to those involved, though.

I don't know the details, and I would certainly have to see the text of the proposal before taking a position.

But chances are, given the situation, that it's a proposal to enact a comprehensive zoning ordinance to get in ahead of the development. And folks who can't sell their farm property for commercial or office (or dense residential development) will be annoyed.

Can’t believe our little county (less than 15,000, more horses than public school students) in on Free Republic, but glad it is.....

Wow.

Trying to provide public water and sewer service to properties developed at 2.5 units/acre is a TOUGH task. I predict high water and sewer bills.
