already one year of recession
How long do recessions last usually?
It will probably end when Obama becomes president in January or soon after that so people can say that he ended the recession. That’s gonna be a good point for him for the 2012 election (sarcasm).

Why not!? It worked for Clinton. That’s precisely what he did. He campaigned railing against the worst economy in 50 years, and soon after Inauguration Day he turned around and said (paraphrase) “Well, it isn’t as bad as I thought it was.”

How long do recessions last usually?
The talking heads on CNBC generally say a recession lasts about
a year, on average.
I'm only an average Joe with no training in economics/finance.
What I fear is that if we're already in a "recession" that's
technically lasted a year...
does this mean we're on the cusp or at risk of an actual
multi-year or decade-long "Depression".
I hope the answer is "No" and that we're just in a recession
that's nastier than the average year-old beast.
And that it will take an extra six months to a year (or two?)
to work out of a crisis in credit, toxic assets and a complicated
ballet that will assure the USA can still build autos by domestically-
controlled companies.
(and the hardware that our war-fighters depend upon).
Forgive the rambling...but that's just one guy's amateur thoughts
on the current situation.
I've gotta' run.
Bernanke is now talking...and of course, the Dow is drifting
downward.
(What a shock that is...NOT!!!)

"How long do recessions last usually?"It's my understanding that, at the longest, they last about eighteen months.
