Iraq will offer 14 oilfields in a second licensing round expected to be announced by the end of this year or in early 2009, a senior Iraqi official said Monday.

Abdullah al-Amir, an oil advisor to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, didn't name which fields nor provide details on what sort of terms might be on offer to foreign companies.

"The second licensing round will offer 14 oilfields," al-Amir told an Iraq petroleum conference here.

Didn’t US and UK oil companies lease those fields (and discover them) several decades ago?

Not enough information on which fields are being offered in this round.

"...nor provide details on what sort of terms might be on offer to foreign companies."

Why are there any "foreign" companies being considered except those that participated in freeing Iraq from that tyrant Sadam and his psychopathic sons? At least until those countries are reimbursed for their treasury expenses.

Because despite what some Democrats claim, we didn’t go to Iraq to take their oil.

I don’t want to “take their oil”. I merely think that some restitution is in order. Oil at a discounted price for a limited length of time to help reimburse the treasuries. I wont even go into the allied lives lost. There can be no price placed on those.
