John Kerry cranky over Barack Obama’s Hillary Clinton pick
Boston Herald ^

Posted on 12/02/2008 12:06:25 AM PST by Chet 99

Word from Capitol Hill is that, despite his kind words for Hillary Clinton yesterday, Sen. John Kerry is angry and disappointed about not being considered a serious candidate for Barack Obama’s secretary of state.

“He’s pretty PO’d,” said Someone Who Knows. “After going from the early front-runner to not even being considered, he’s pretty disappointed.”

Kerry yesterday issued a statement congratulating Clinton on her nomination for the globe-trotting gig.

“President-Elect Obama has chosen a terrific national security team to protect our security and help restore America’s rightful place in the world,” Kerry’s statement read. “As Secretary of State, my friend and colleague Hillary Clinton will bring her years of experience and her remarkable intellect to the effort to restore our alliances and advance the president’s agenda in the world.”

Kerry will, of course, have to settle for the chairmanship of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee under the new regime. But, considering his early support for Obama, we hear Kerry was expecting to be moving out of the Senate come January.

“He was out there early for Obama but it didn’t do him much good,” said our spy.

“He’s bored with being a senator,” said another political source.

The conventional wisdom is that the president-elect chose Clinton over Kerry ...(clip)... to keep an eye on her and her hubby in a sort of “keep-your-friends-close-and-your-enemies-closer” scenario.

I don't believe that for a second. I think Obama chose her because he's a weak person and he figures if he puts her there he can blame her for foreign policy debacles, just as Gates can be a "Well, he was Bush's SecDef" fall guy.

Amidst all the disappointments of the political scene it is a genuine delight to hear that Lurch is in such discomfort!!

If he’s so restless in the Senate maybe he should beg to be sent as US Ambassador to France. He and Teresa could enjoy the Paris cocktail party circuit for a few years......

Obama “owns” Gates now, and any of his perceived bungling, just as Bush did with the Clinton holdovers he (foolishly) kept.

I agree he’s weak. I think he selected her and several others because everyone keeps reinforcing to him how weak he is, and his not asserting his independence only reinforces his weakness. He is looking like he wants to govern by consensus. Such leadership. Such change.

John Kerry cranky over Barack Obama’s Hillary Clinton pick

John Kerry thought that all of that money he married would guarantee his ascension to an office higher than Senator. Reality bites.

We all knew Obama was a social climber but we had no idea he was a mountaineer.

“He was out there early for Obama but it didn’t do him much good,” said our spy.

From a 2004 pre-election article by Ryan Lizza, in Chicago:

"Obama has mastered the art of appearing to take reporters into his confidence by dispensing the sort of forthright political chatter that causes them to swoon. I received a signed copy of his autobiography and with it a trenchant analysis of his party's presidential nominee. ("Sometimes Kerry just doesn't have that oomph," he said, punctuating the thought with a tight-lipped shake of the head and a clenched fist.)"

No oomph, Lurch: O has spoken. You lose -- again.

Obama chose her because his bosses wanted him to choose her. They don’t want to pay her legal bills for her fraud trial and the problems it’s going to cause. So they get her out of the country and high profile and work the lying PR.

Jon Carry forgot to wear his secret “magic floppy hat” given to him by a CIA operative for that fictitious mission upriver into Cambodia. See, if he’d worn the hat and visited the Obama team in Chicago then they would have realized they were dealing with such a living legend and that would have transcended any Clinton star power.

We cannot forget the price that came with Hillary & Bill, for that matter; campaigning for Obama; and Hillary ‘trying’ to deliver/persuade her ‘Camp’ to support Obama. There were l o n g talks back then; ‘tween’ Obama and Hillary as to what it would take for her to ‘assist’ the Obama effort. . .Personally, think this was on the table; flat out and only Obama’s guarantee; sealed the deal.

So Kerry is bored with being a Senator. . .

Kerry owns a 'bored arrogance' and his Government service no more than an excuse for a power trip; and a job; that if in sought in the 'real world'; he would be guaranteed, failure. Oh, that he would leave; go back to stealing cookie recipies; instead of milking his own vacuous, if non-existant patriotism/altruism.

This man win should win a prize, for his excruciatingly boring and irrelevant presence in the world.

John Kerry, from his book, The New Soldier:

"We will not quickly join those who march on Veterans' Day waving small [American] flags, calling to memory those thousands who died for the 'greater glory of the United States.'..."

"The John Kerry quote comes in the epilogue to "The New Soldier," the book put out [in 1971] by Vietnam Veterans Against the War [VVAW]. The book's cover features a group of not-particularly sober-looking anti-war protesters (vets, presumably) flying the American flag upside down [while mocking the historic flag raising event at Iwo Jima]":

Note John Kerry's name at top right of The New Soldier

June, 1970 -- Kerry joins Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), a national veterans group that is part of the Peoples Coalition for Peace and Justice. The PCPJ is a broad coalition of local and national organizations, including the Communist Party, USA, "committed to conducting demonstrations aimed at ending the war in Indochina, and poverty, racism and injustice at home." The VVAW, CCI and PCPJ all have headquarters at 156 Fifth Avenue in New York City. VVAW Executive Secretary Al Hubbard, a former Black Panther, is also on the coordinating committee of the PCPJ. Hubbard soon appoints Kerry to the VVAW's Executive Committee, bypassing the normal election process.

Photo (link below): "Jane Fonda and John Kerry at an anti-war rally in Valley Forge, Pa. (Leif Skoogfors/Corbis)"
(apparently, we are not permitted to directly post the Skoogfors/Corbis photo here?)

The photo is for real and different than the one above. Here is what Jane Fonda herself had to say about it:

"My reaction is that the American people have had it with the big lie. Any attempt to link Kerry to me and make him look bad with that connection is completely false. We were at a rally for veterans at the same time. I spoke, Donald Sutherland spoke, John Kerry spoke at the end. I don't even think we shook hands."

_____________________________________________________________

November 22, 1970 -- During a fund-raising tour for GI deserters, Vietnam Veterans Against the War and the Black Panthers, Jane Fonda is quoted in the Detroit Free Press as telling a University of Michigan audience:
"I would think that if you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would someday become communist," and "The peace proposal of the Viet Cong is the only honorable, just, possible way to achieve peace in Vietnam."

January, 1971: Jane Fonda raises funds for the Winter Soldier Investigation through a series of benefit concerts. Participants include Fonda, Dick Gregory, Donald Sutherland, Graham Nash, David Crosby and Phil Ochs. Fonda is named Honorary National Coordinator of the event.

February 16, 1971: Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland form "FTA" (F*** The Army), an anti-war, anti-American road show that tours near Army bases in order to undermine troop morale. Skits and songs portray American defeats, soldiers refusing to fight, and the murder of officers by their troops. FTA cast members mingle with soldiers after the shows, encouraging them to desert or to sabotage the Army.

Fonda made the following statement at the University of Texas:
"We've got to establish a Socialist economic structure that will limit private profit-oriented businesses. Whether the transition is peaceful depends on the way our present governmental leaders react. We must commit our lives to this transition ...... We should be very proud of our new breed of soldier. It's not organized but it's mutiny, and they have every right." --Karen Elliott Dallas Morning News December 11, 1971

From 1972: "I am not a do-gooder, I am a revolutionary. A revolutionary woman."

So John Kerry would have a difficult time marching with those waving small American flags yet had NO problems marching with those waving HUGE VIETCONG FLAGS???

“He’s bored with being a senator,” said another political source.

Bored? When he ran for the presidency in 04, his legislative record was so shallow that he kept stealing accomplishments of others and claiming them as his. He did initiate a few resolutions (about 4) during his 29 years in the Senate. That was about it.

Bored? Maybe he was listening to too many of his 04 campaign speeches.

Maybe the Senator should consider a job change. He tried comedy and started a joke heard around the world -- "Did you hear the one about the troops stuck in Iraq?"

Ted Kennedy may leave the Senate depending on his health. If Clinton stayed in Senate, she could be the next giant there, and compete with Obama for attention. With State, she gets tons of media, but in his service. That and Kerry is a joke is why he wasn’t chosen. The fact he doesn’t know he’s a joke is kind of funny.
