The attitudes and conduct of some 29,760 high school students across the United States "doesn't bode well for the future when these youngsters become the next generation's politicians and parents, cops and corporate executives, and journalists and generals," the non-profit Josephson Institute said.

In its 2008 Report Card on the Ethics of American Youth, the Los Angeles-based organization said the teenagers' responses to questions about lying, stealing and cheating "reveals entrenched habits of dishonesty for the workforce of the future..."

"Despite these high levels of dishonesty, these same kids have a high self-image when it comes to ethics."
Some 93 percent of students indicated satisfaction with their own character and ethics, with 77 percent saying that "when it comes to doing what is right, I am better than most people I know."

It all depends on the definition of "lie, cheat, and steal." /sarc

Seriously, though. America has no moral compass any more, so the statistics in this article aren't that much of a shocker.

The fruits of secularism.

Some 93 percent of students indicated satisfaction with their own character and ethics, with 77 percent saying that "when it comes to doing what is right, I am better than most people I know."

Of course they are - after all they are worried about global warming.

American teenagers lie, steal and cheat more at "alarming rates,"...and they feel good about themselves while doing so. Tolerance trumps virtue and feelings, intelligence.

This is just liberal education. If all values are equal, then there can be no such thing as deficient ethics. That can only be true if you believe in moral absolutes. So what are liberal educators worried about? This is exactly what they've taught children to believe: situational ethics. And now they're shocked? Tsk, tsk, tsk!

Of course. They're behaving exactly the way liberals think they should behave. Or where they meant to hear a different message?

The future is already here, these types of kids have been turning into leaders for decades, denying accountability and ruining the ethical underpinnings that once held this country together. Witness Clinton, who (barf alert) “taught” all middle schoolers that oral sex isn’t sex, or Teddy K, who taught a generation that you can get away with manslaughter if you know the right people.
And on and on.....

Role models: Politicians, Athletes, Entertainers, public school Teachers

Parents work long hours, few people go to church.

Where do we expect kids to learn how to be decent humans???

When everyone defines what is right and good for themselves, they invariably define their own behavior as right and good. This is the goal of the post-modernist movement.

And how would you expect teens to act today when over half the country subscribes to an ideology that promotes the flagrant defiant violation of all of God’s commandments?

This comes with the me, me, me mentality. The teenagers of today have got to realize that the world doesnt revolve around them.

Well.. when they see politicians stealing elections; their sports idols cheat by taking performance-enhancing drugs; parents cheat on each other — it’s all reflective of society in general. What do we expect???
