In fairness if you read the article you can see that the policemen have not received any training in using the weapons due to corruption and and lack of money.
Certainly the Lee Enfield is a fine rifle and in the hands of trained men they could have been effective but if the man carrying the rifle hasn’t even been told how to shoot it or doesn’t have any bullets then it’s unfair to expect him to take on a trained gunman (and the terrorists do seem to have received more weapons training than the police) who has a more modern rifle.
The reports said that some of these cops were killed. It seems to me that someone should have had a little better survival instincts than that.
