The culture that produces the names and the maladjustment is the cause of both. I think that was the conclusion in Freakanomics. Kids from such backgrounds are pretty much screwed, even if their parents name them "John" or "Lisa." The ridiculous names are a symptom of a much worse pathology.

I wasnt clear- I think there is something wrong with the parents who name kids strangely- it is a way to be different and “truly black,” IMO.
