WASHINGTON -- The D.C. Council has approved emergency legislation allowing the city's bars, nightclubs and restaurants to stay open around the clock for four days around President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration.
The bill allows any establishment with a liquor license to serve alcohol until 5 a.m. and serve food at any hour from Jan. 17 until the morning of Jan. 21.
The council approved the measure in a 9-4 vote Tuesday and was pushed by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington. The organization says the inauguration is a rare event that is worthy of special rules.

I don’t see why any business should be told what operating hours it can observe. If there’s demand for round the clock bars, then have round the clock bars.
DC is NOT the place to be during Inauguration Week.
They should have a weeklong amnesty for coke dealers too in honor of Barry’s college coke snorting habit.

I wonder how many “civil rights” complaints will come because some bars decide they DON’T WANT to stay open around the clock? Or maybe don’t even want to be open at all during those 4 days?
This allows the stupid to stay stupid even longer.
I don’t know too many bars that don’t want to make a lot of money.

I imagine there will be plenty of Conservatives wanting to get sloshed if His Excellency is sworn in as expected.

Ammo sales will be up.There could be a significant population reduction over four days.
Add to that - the metros won’t be open as long as the bars. How are all those people staying out in the MD/VA ‘burbs going to get back to their hotels? There certainly won’t be enough DC cabs to take them.
This has catastrophe written all over it. I’m planning on hightailing it out of the area anyway for that 4-day weekend. But knowing these idiots could be on the roads after drinking to all hours just seals the deal.
Someone should design and manufacture 5000 commemorative patriotic straws for the inauguration, complete with the party logo and the date Obama was elected.
Bet money they'd sell for 5. bucks each.
Nor do I, but it may not be worth the staffing problems to shuffle people around for a 4 day Democrat bender for one thing. And what’s the point of having the lights on and the employees on the clock for 24 hours to serve a very limited number of customers between, say, 2 and 5 a.m. I see this as something that Democrat revellers will construe as being a “requirement” that every place be open. And some bars and restaurants just won’t see it as good business.
