Stop Using the Word ‘Islam’ in Reports on Terrorism, Islamic Bloc Says Thursday, December 04, 2008 By Patrick Goodenough, International Editor
(CNSNews.com) – If the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) had its way, media reporting on terrorist activity would exclude “any reference to Islam” – whatever the affiliation, identity or motivation of the perpetrators.
The bloc of Islamic nations, which is spearheading a drive at the United Nations to have the “defamation” of Islam outlawed, this week voiced criticism about media coverage of recent terrorist attacks.
Without citing any specific attack, the OIC’s Jeddah-based general secretariat said in a statement it had “noticed a tendency of a section of the media, to interpose the word ‘Islam’ in reporting these incidences.”
“It is frustrating to see some circles, still, maliciously trying to establish conceptual link between such evil and wicked practices and Islam, the religion that condemns, scorns and outlaws them,” it said.
The OIC described the perpetrators of such attacks as “deviant and fanatic individuals.”
“We, in the OIC, call upon all well-intentioned peoples of the world, not to give to these criminals any right to present Islam, a right that Islam itself denies them,” it said. “Those who refer to the perpetrators as acting on behalf of Islam, help them by offering them justification, anchor and premise that they don’t have or deserve.”

We could refer to them as “followers of a major religion whose theology more resembles a militant death-worshiping cult, which has been involved in virtually all other similar deliberately planned acts of violence carried out worldwide against innocent victims, and it’s not Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism or worship of rocks & trees and we can’t say which religion it is but we’ll bet you can guess.”
It would take a lot of ink, but I suppose that ought to satisfy them.

Yeah, not all. As you say, only a fraction are actual terrorists.
The rest support terrorism, actively through training and arming, funding, emotional and logistical support, or merely by silent agreement with the tactics and goals of the terrorism.
Perhaps a dozen out of a billion have spoken out against it.

The only people who have a reason to chastise the use of the term “Islamic Terrorism” is the Department of Redundancy Department. The word “Terrorism” implies “Islamic” unless it is the rare case of other groups’ terrorism.
I’d like to say something in defense of Islam but I find myself speechless.
