It is just horrible. It is like going hunting and having a field full of deer and just being unable to aim and fire. I get sick sometimes. I like people like Sean Hannity and Rush but even they don’t seem to know how to really go on the attack anymore. Limbaugh used to be highly effective at wrapping and packing Democrats now he seems more interested in golf. Seldom do we have the hard hitting piercing parody and satire that made him great.

All I know is I see the party spending millions of dollars in highly ineffective ways. This election I signed up for the Obama and Clinton campaigns email so that I would know what they were up to. I got at least 4 times as many emails from the Obama campaign than McCain’s. Some weeks I got more emails from the defunct Clinton campaign trying to collect money to pay down her campaign debt. I didn’t get one call about volunteering even after signing up for the McCain campaign. I did get email responses after emailing people directly. I spent a lot of time going door to door but not because the campaign was aggressive at getting me to do it. The Obama folks called me once a week trying to get me to go door to door for them. I’ll tell you how bad it was. I had me and my kids one Saturday, that is all. I took them door to door with my little guys in a stroller. The Obama campaign had dozens of people show up to volunteer in an area where they had no chance of doing very well but in the end they did well enough.

I don’t even believe that giving the national party money is the right idea. I think we need to invest our money in independent PACs. We really need separate organizations that will do the job our national party is not doing. We didn’t even compete in the Senate races and the sad thing is that they never even tried. I think I got one email from the Senatorial committee after donating. If you can’t even leverage your allies how in the hell can you defeat an enemy?

That's right on the money.

Back in 1992 I went to our local county seat (Doylestown, Bucks County) and visited the Republican and Democrat campaign offices there to pick up some campaign paraphenalia for my son’s elementary school class. Buttons, posters, bumper stickers, that sort of thing.

I walked into the GOP office and it was as nice as you can imagine, like walking into the Waldorf. Cherry furniture, custom drapes, padded wall-to-wall carpet, and a young man in a suit behind a reception counter. He was very cordial and helpful and was happy to give me some campaign stuff that he had on the shelves. I was the only other person in the place, at least as far as I could tell.

Then I went to the Democrat office a few blocks away. It was a rented storefront, disorganized, and kind of a dump. But the place was a freaking beehive of activity and enthusiasm. Everybody was on their feet, and the phones were ringing off the hook. The campaign workers were in jeans and shirts and they almost looked out of breath. I picked out one busy guy who looked like he worked there and I asked him about getting some buttons and bumper stickers. He glanced around, looked in a few drawers, scooted from a metal desk to a file cabinet and back to another desk, and finally handed me a nice pile of campaign stuff, with a smile. Then back to work he went.

I walked out of that Democrat campaign office on that day in early October of 1992 and there was not a doubt in my mind that Bill Clinton would win the election.

I suspect a similar feeling nagged at you this year.

you are right about the pacs....I think they are more directed, can take more chances, and it seems they outdo the party's best......

I guess we need to support the Pacs ALL thru the year if we can...so they can have a nice stockpile.....

we have to remember about this election is that zero had ALL The money and the media and the right timing in a bad economy....he should have won no matter what.....but Sarah really did put a little scare in him and the media didn't she....

after all is said and done, nearly 60,000,000 people voted against the zero..
