Vinnie Jones gets into bar fight over role in X-Men

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota, (AFP) - - British football star turned tough-guy Hollywood actor Vinnie Jones was hospitalized and arrested after he got into a bar fight over his role in the film X-Men.

Jones took offense when one of the men identified as Juggernaut from "X-Men: The Last Stand" which he apparently took as a slight against his more significant roles.

"He started pushing my other friends around," said Juan Barrera, 24, who sat nearby while his roommates played pool.

"He said he's been in so many other movies or whatever."

Police said Jones charged at a local patron, 24-year-old Jesse Bickett, who then hit Jones in the face with a beer glass.

His face bloodied, Jones was walking to the restroom to clean up when he saw Barrera and punched him in the face, Barrera told AFP.

Barrera said he hit Jones once or twice in the face before bar staff kicked him out.

Jones was treated for facial injuries at a local hospital where was arrested for misdemeanor assault early Friday morning, police said.

Formal charges have not been filed, and no court date has been set.

Police charged Bickett with felony aggravated assault, but his mother says it was self-defense.

"He's got major hospital bills hanging over his head," Deb Bickett said. "He (Jones) doesn't want to run into me."

After a football career in which he developed a brutal "hard man" reputation, Jones debuted as an actor in "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels." His other film credits include "Snatch" and "Gone in Sixty Seconds."

His manager said Jones was vacationing in the area but declined to comment on the brawl.

This is why whatever comes from the mouth of someone in Hollywood is not taken seriously in "God Frearing/Gun Clinging" middle America . . . we know real life from reality. If you go looking for a fight here you won't get hit with a "hollywood prop" fake beer bottle and there won't be a soccer ref stepping in the middle of it to give someone a "yellow card".

I have to agree. This is one confusing article. Is the English language really that difficult for "professional" journalists to comprehend??

Vacationing in the Sioux Falls area of SD in December?
Whatever he's paying his travel agent/vacation planner it's way to much.
Unless of course he's hunting quail.

I was gonna say. I still don’t know what the heck happened other than that there was a fight and an arrest.

Whew! I was thinking that I lost the ability to read and comprehend until the “babblefish” question.

Journalism is no longer a profession - it is a joke.

He’s been arrested for violent offences many times in the past. He is a genuine bona-fide common or garden thug, who happens to have had two extremely lucrative ‘talents’ aside from his penchant for brawling and fighting.
Apparently, he hasn’t grown up in his 40 odd years of life, but you’d think he’d make some concessions to the fact that he is slowing down in his old age...

They tell a story the way an excited 4-year old might:

"Um...There was fight...and there was this guy...he was in a movie...and there was fight...and this other guy said Juggernaut...And then he went to the hospital...Oh. And this one guy? He got hit in the face? And you know what??? He got arrested!!!"

“Jones’ manager, Alex Cole, said Jones was on vacation, but he didn’t know what the actor was doing in Sioux Falls.”

Getting his ass kicked apparently.

AP articles always seem to me like a series of isolated facts jumbled together. It would do them good to read over what they have and do a little cutting and pasting.

Filming “Barfighter II: Badlands” with Vin Diesel and several other useless people.

Something like this happened in Ricky Gervais's comedy series Extras, except there, Vinny Jones was the tough guy and Gervais was in horror that Jones would mess him up over some comment attributed to him.

Jones has this "hard man" reputation that started when he was a soccer player. After a while, that kind of reputation gets to be a burden.
