Tribune Co. is preparing for a possible bankruptcy-protection filing as soon as this week, according to people familiar with the matter, opening a new front of trouble for the newspaper industry.
As Tribune continues discussions with its lenders to rework its debt load, the newspaper-and-television concern in recent days ...

Just heard it on Bob Brinker Moneytalk!
har!
Excellent. And let us hope such great news follows from the other anti-American, socialist-supporting propoganda rags like the NYT, LAT, etc.
May they choke on their treasonous behavior.
LOL, beat you to it by 8 seconds, here:

Belongs somewhere in Breaking or Front Page, don’t you think?
It already is.
I can remember when the Chicago Tribune was a conservative paper.
Snicker....
HA....too bad, so sad....everyone gets what they deserve, eventually....guess what....TRIBUNE is GETTING WHAT it’s DESERVED!!!

Big 3 should do the same.
What was Sam Zell thinking when he bought Tribune Co.?
I do not rejoice any newspaper disappearing.
But why? Can't you ask for some bail out money? You can't possibly declare bankruptcy to get out from pension liability... that is unliberal of you...
It’s so wonderful ... It’s like early Christmas.
Tax write-off.
Well, it looks like being the official printer of the DNC isn't quite as financially lucrative as expected.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.......
Isn’t bankruptcy, merely the government redistributing wealth? You know ... socialism?
The sell off of assets and the tax write-off.
you mean the Chicago mob machine can get a man elected President but can’t save it’s pals at the Tribune?
ping
awesome point..the more leftist newpapers that go out of business, the better! if any survive, they will have to cater to market forces...that means honest reporting
If we have any Conservative Billionaires (is there such a thing?) then it is time for them to step up to the plate and help buy back America. He/she can start by purchasing the LA Times and turning it into an actual newspaper rather than simply another arm of the Democrap Party.

Mwahahahahahahaha!
Cancelled our subscription (an action precipitated by my wife, a former lib, no less) two weeks ago - didn’t expect the consequences this quickly, but hey, couldn’t be more pleased to see that biased rag bite the big one this soon.
Wow, I guess I just found out how naive I am. If one company owns that many news assets, I now understand why they all say the same thing on their broadcasts. Unreal to have that much media power wrapped up in one company. No wonder there is no investigative reporting anymore.

Lots of writers in those papers I’d like to see lose their homes by not being able to pay their mortgages.
I would hope you don't need a ‘certificate’ from the Gov’t ‘authorizing’ being a ‘news’ source and having Constitutional protections.
What’s the point? Is there something in the bankruptcy code that forces newspapers to fire the liberal reporters?
OH ABB Sunday night good news
If the Tribune expects a bailout from the government, the chairman should resign. /rimshot
The Chicago Tribune was the one proudly conservative newspaper we subscribed to wherever we lived. It gradually drifted leftward until it was no better than national locals so we dropped it. Interesting that so many roads lead to Chicago these days. The Chicago Tribune has represented quite well the policies and thinking of the leftist democrat machine that has elected citizen Obama to the presidency of the US. It should have died before it deteriorated into a propaganda sheet for the left in general as well as the local democrat party. Their guy is in now so they have become superfluous. Even the left shrinks from sending good money after bad. Good riddance.
Just wait.
Newspaper bailout. (for all the papers that endorsed Obama)

Yeah, I wonder how close NYT and LAT are to bankruptcy?
Anyone...
The LA Times is part of the Tribune Co. The NY Times Co. has another year or so to live.
He's only on the hook for 300 mil. He's still an extremely wealthy man. Like many successful men, he takes risks. Some work out, some don't. It's not like he pushed all his chips into the middle of the table.
So you are the person responsible for all this? (LOL)!!
Thanks for the info. Do you personally think their ‘death’ will effect the political culture in America?
“I can remember when the Chicago Tribune was a conservative paper.”
And so was the Los Angeles Times, Phildelphia Inquirer, New York Daily News, Time Magazine and many others. sigh
Well, he has had a run of bad luck lately.
I think he bought American Hawaiian Cruise Lines some years ago. He was bringing out 4 new ships and then 9/11 occurred.
The company folded and the newer ships sold.
The old cruise ships, the Independence and Constitution
will probably be going to the ship breakers if they have not already.
