Isn't it interesting how the head Kennedy made his wealth in ILLEGAL bootleg liquor. Have you noticed how most of the relevant Kennedy's had alcohol problems? Hmmm?
Actually, Joseph P. Kennedy made his money on insider trading. He was a minor official in FDR's administration who understood prohibition would soon be repealed for the tax revenue it would generate. JPK went out to all his Irish buddies and borrowed as much money as he could to get distribution rights for the various European brands of booze available. They thought he was crazy and sold those rights for pennies. Then repeal happened and suddenly those rights were worth millions.
So far as I know, he wasn't involved in bootlegging, only insider trading. It doesn't make him any less of a crook, just a more sophisticated one.
