Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich wanted President-elect Barack Obama "to put something together&something big" in exchange for going along with Obama's choice to fill his vacant U.S. Senate seat, according to a FBI affidavit unsealed following the governor's stunning arrest.
"I've got this thing and it's f***ing golden, and, uh, uh, I'm just not giving it up for f***in' nothing. I'm not gonna do it. And I can always use it. I can parachute me there," Blagojevich said in a phone call secretly recorded by the FBI on Nov. 5, the day after the election, according to the affidavit.

"It is conduct that would make Lincoln roll over in his grave," said U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald in announcing the charges today in Chicago.
He said the governor's efforts to "sell" the Senate seat was the "most sinister and appalling" of a range of alleged corrupt acts detailed in today's case.
Fitzgerald said "there's no reference in the complaint to any conversations involving the president-elect or indicating that the president-elect was aware of it, and that's all I can say." His comment did not close the door on the possibility that Obama or someone on his staff may have known of some aspect of the governor's demands.
Obama addressed the scandal over his Senate seat Tuesday afternoon, saying, "I had no contact with the governor or his office and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening."
But Obama's senior advisor David Axelrod told a Chicago affiliate of Fox News that Obama had in fact spoken to Blagojevich about his empty Senate seat.

Seeing how reckless Blago was in those wiretapped calls, I have to expect that he has blabbed his diarrhea mouth to quite a few people. Someone already known to be under investigation from the Feds could normally be expected to adopt a code of discretion, especially with vulnerable phone calls. The fact that Blago is babbling like such a corrupt idiot where the Feds can listen in suggests that there ought to be quite a few people who can testify to his corrupt behavior..... just matter of squeezing all of them until some spill their guts to the prosecutors.

According to the charging affidavit, Blagojevich and company were conspiring to “silence” certain Chicago Tribune reporters.
And don’t forget that Richie Daley has his own eyes and ears and interests. He’s been surprisingly reserved in the past about Blago.
The 'we were not' followed by the 'i was not' correction is quite telling.
Obviously, there was a deal in the works for the President Elect to trade something, not "nothing," to the Governor for the Senate Seat.

You know Blago and Obama had to have talked about this long ago. They only had, oh, TWO YEARS, which was how long Obama ran for the Presidency.
We’ll see if Obama owns up to it or does the road under the bus get even more crowded?
They had even more than two years, since Obambi had his eyes on the Presidency at least since the moment he stepped into the US Senate, and he started running informally for POTUS almost from the first months in 2005.
Of course, there was a period where Blago was hoping to run for POTUS in 2008......
Wonder if Blago and Obama ever had the kind of talk, Whichever one of us wins the Presidency helps the other.....
