If it was an actual Glock (and not a “Glock” as in any-black-pistol-the-media-sees), he most certainly should’ve had a round in the chamber, or else why carry it?
Every time on TV you see the bad guy rack the slide to make his big dramatic threat, if you don’t see a cartridge go flying out he’s been waving an unfireable gun the whole time.

In a holster where the trigger is protected, I’d be comfortable with a round in the chamber. In my pants next to the family jewels, I think not. Since he reached in and grabbed the gun pulling the safety and trigger and shot himself, he would have been better off with an empty chamber. Shoud a situation begin to develop, and there are usually percursers to a crises, a discreet chambering of a round might be warranted. Waving around a gun, chambered or not is not a good thing.
