As a former New Yorker, I am occasionally obliged to ask impertinent questions. Such as: How can Democrats, who ridiculed Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as an inexperienced political wannabe, now embrace the idea of elevating Caroline Kennedy who hasn't served a day in public office to Hillary Clinton's New York Senate seat?
How, indeed, can the same "progressives" who opposed Clinton's election as president because they were repelled by the notion of extending the "Clinton dynasty" now be keen on perpetuating the Kennedy dynasty through an appointment?
The Massachusetts senator and others in the family are actively promoting John F. Kennedy's daughter who famously shunned the gritty political world for the sanctuary of public service through her private endeavors to take the Senate seat once occupied by her late uncle, Robert F. Kennedy, and now held by Clinton.
A decision on filling the vacancy should Clinton be confirmed as secretary of state is up to New York Gov. David Paterson, who could be forgiven, in moments like this, if he fleetingly wishes that he'd not ascended to the office after predecessor Eliot Spitzer's indiscretions.
What, exactly, is the case to be made for Caroline Kennedy?
If Kennedy wants to be senator, there is a path to the job: the special election necessary to fill the Clinton seat in 2010, no matter who gets the interim appointment. A campaign would allow Kennedy to prove her mettle. Voters could take the measure of her as a potential leader, not as a celebrity.

Arrogance - their own
and Stupidity - the American public’s
How dare you question her credentials! Like all the other Kennedy's, it is in her jeans . . . er genes.
Cognitive Dissonance - all liberals have it.
Surely you jest. The answer is obvious.
If Democrats want it, it’s a good thing and must happen, and any inconvenient obstacles - like logic, laws, principles, people, the Constitution - must be removed at any cost.
Next question.
They are pushing Princess Caroline to set her up as a potential opponent to Palin in ‘16. Unlike the GOP, the dims do not have a good group of up-and-comers to run in ‘16. If Princess Caroline gets this seat, she will have 8 years Senate experience in ‘16, more than 0bama.
—I, too, have wondered about the relative qualifications of Caroline Camelot vs. Sarah Palin-—
It didn’t stop Ted from taking office either.
Assuming that Carolyn is a typical Kennedy - e.g., must take the bar many times to pass, has little physical coordination, and absolutely no talents beyond inheriting a name, why not?
After all, all Sarah did was become governor pretty much on her own and as a bonus actually has physical coordination.
Betcha Sarah can drive, ski, and drive a plane without killing herself or others unfortunate enough to be with her.
Palin will wipe the floor with Caroline!
As a child she played under the president’s desk. Remember the pictures? That makes her uniquely qualified.
Simple answer: Lieberals rules about dynasties, experience and other qualifications only apply to the opposition, not to them. They’re special.
Isn’t that Monica you are referring to?
This New Yorker isn’t very happy about it. Let’s get a newbie in instead of a family name that’s been in politics forever and ever and ever. She has NO experience.
They can because they can. No one is going to call them on it, and - even if they did, the dems aren’t required to justify their own actions through logic or ethics, and - even if they were, the press would never let us know about any of this.
Actually I think that unlike her brother, Caroline passed the bar on her first try.
No more Kennedys or Bushes in political power, or the Clintons. We’ve had it! Too bad we’re going to have Bill and Hill back with all their criminality. They will overpower Obama. He has made a big mistake putting Hillary in Condi’s position.
