why would I give a crap where you were from anyway that was the point I was trying to make but you missed that maybe my post was accurate enough?

As for me where I am from , well it’s a place called called salford 6 and then little hulton.
You can come down my way anytime and see ow we live there.

As for you thinking the mail is crappy well that is your view .

Putting someone down by what they read is elitist and is what the champagne socialists or the far left lunatic fascist snobs do.
I.e. move on with fox news

There is nothing wrong by what someone reads, many people I know look down on those who walk around with a guardian under their arm saying words like cool and talking about the latest video games.
Personally I do not care what a stranger watches or reads as I do not know what else they watch or read.

your aunt might have lived in Roachdale but again out of curiosity where are you from not your family?

BTW I have lived in many parts of the country due to me being in the service for many years so that is why I am wondering where you hail from. To see if I know the area and if you know certain areas

I am from Oldham, or I was (that was Winston Churchill’s first parliamentary constituency for the sake of it being relevent to this thread).
You are right I suppose, I shouldn’t judge someone solely by the newspaper they choose to read. But it is a crappy newspaper that doesn’t even attempt to report facts in their proper context. At least the Guardian, for all it’s ivory-tower dwelling pomposity, does at least attempt to be journalistic. Like I said before though, I prefer the Telegraph or the Times. If I was a better man, I’d read the Independent if it wasn’t so unbelievably dull even by my standards...

I have no probs where some one is from and have no probs what they read.
I will be honest and get pissed off at times when I come across a certain section of people who just take one source of media as gospel.

Our kid lived in Oldham but had to move because of what was going on there, he later moved to heywood.
No offence but Oldham is a doss hole though where I come from is not exactly the posh place of the UK

It’s seen better days. It used to be the world’s leading cotton spinning centre, and the people were famously proud and reknowned for their thrift and hard work in a time of crisis. The people there lived on their own means and lived longer without outside help than all the other major cotton districts. They instinctively detested socialism and tended to value working-class capitalism over what Churchill called the ‘Philophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy’. Might not be quite that way now the way they keep voting Labour.
Did hear a story about a landowner in Oldham who evicted a group of travellers from his land single handed though just the other day. He went round and told them they were trespassing on his land, and had to leave. And this big bald bloke swaggers up to him and one of the traveller’s said “This here is the hardest man in Manchester, what are you gonna do to get us to move off?” Next thing *clunk!* big bloke is lying on the ground and the Oldhamer is holding a crowbar that he’d concealed in his sleeve and says “This ist ‘ardest crowbar in Oldham, now if you’re not gone by’t time I’ve come back with a can of petrol, I will burn everything that I see” And they left, under the gaze of the landowner stood with a jerry can mounted on the roof of his car.
Don’t know if it’s true or not, but it was someone who wasn’t from Oldham who told me this, and it sounds a lot like some people I know from round there would do. Thought it was a brilliant story though...

Pretty sad what happened to Salford though to, used to be a distinct town of its own and a proud rival of Manchester, and then they got swallowed up by them like victims of the Borg...

I liked Salford how it used to be , rough yea but the [people chipped in and it had a unique neighbourhood spirit.
Now you are right , it has been swallowed up by investors, Manchester and yuppies moving from down south.

Ordsall estate- I know a few who will not sell no matter the price, their house in in prime location to the city centre of Manchester, Old trafford and the motorways.

We got moved out to little Hulton/Walkden because the council thought it would be a good idea to move us riff raff (they think)out to the outskirts so tourists, upper middle classes and students wouldn’t see us.

I actually heard the same story though I didn’t know it was in Oldham.

Manchester doesn’t even feel like a Northern City anymore, walking around it a couple of weeks ago, the vibe I got from the people was the same I got from people in London. Doesn’t feel as outgoing and friendly as it used to be, I don’t know.

I actually heard a similar story concerning another illegal camp in Burnley, where they had a community meeting to discuss the problem, and someone suggested that he would get his bulldozer, and the other residents would tool themselves up with basball bats, walking sticks etc to protect it. At that point the policeman there covered his ears and said ‘I’m not hearing this’ and that’s what they did, a gang of Burnley residents turned out tooled up with various mele weapons and a bulldozer and said they had about 5 minutes to get on the road, or the bulldozer would be going right through the middle of the camp.
Sounds like these stories are doing the rounds in the North West though, LOL....
