Polar bears could avoid extinction despite many starving to death in coming years, according to scientists and other observers who have discovered that some of the bears have found a new food source — goose and duck eggs.

Meanwhile, snow geese are thriving near the western Hudson Bay, and researchers say there are in fact too many of them. Their eggs can be a good food source, researchers report in the online version of the journal Polar Biology. The geese nest on tundra that some bears have retreated to.

Polar bears survived a warm period about 125,000 years ago, when sea level was 12 to 18 feet (4 to 6 meters) higher than it is now and trees lived above the Arctic Circle, the scientists point out.

"They've been through warming before," Rockwell said.

If polar bears really wanted to they could learn to subsist on scientists alone.

Eggs? While I’m sure no polar bear, or any other sort, would turn them down., they are bears, they’ll eat the geese as well as the eggs. Bears are fast, both in the sprint and over longer distances.

Eco-nuts think they are God!

Gee, after 4.5 billion years, the earth and its flora and fauna, still find ways to survive without human intervention. Now that's Devine!

If you think this story is ridiculous, go to the foxnews.com link and check out the RELATED links. One of them is titled "Possum may be extinct due to global warming."

It's truly belly-laugh funny.

Does anyone have that cartoon of polar bears discussing how global warming means they’ll have to move south...Where luckily there are many fat, defenseless creatures called “humans” for them to prey on? The bear leading the meeting is using a pointer and a poster full of Canadian, American, and Mexican stereotypes, all obese, and the bears listening are smiling. I didn’t save the cartoon & I wish I had, so if you have it-please post it to this appropriate thread.

If you root for the polar bear, you’re rooting against the baby sea lion.

Go Warm!

Not long ago the WSJ ran an article on Churchill, Canada where Polar Bears are seasonal visitors. Said the “old timers” who have been guides there for decades are really annoyed at the “scientists” who come there and make announcements taht the bears are starving due to global warming. The bears are always thin that time of year and it irks those who know better that these newcomers tell the world something new is happening.

Did you see the National Geographic special a few days ago where an American polar bear hunter shot a bear (legally in 2006) and the Canadians said it was a “blond grizzly” and were going to prosecute him for illegal taking of wildlife?

Turns out DNA testing showed it was a new species — a grizzly/polar bear hybrid. Because the DNA showed it was part polar bear, they let him and his Eskimo guide off the hook. Polar bears will survive as they have for tens of thousands of years, notwithstanding Al Gore’s protestations.
