Declaring that tough economic times demand that New Yorkers are represented by a real fighter in the U.S. Senate, state Republican chairman Joseph N. Mondello today urged Governor David Paterson to appoint Representative Peter T. King to that body once Senator Hillary Clinton is confirmed as U.S Secretary of State.
"The Governor should put partisan politics aside and do what is in the best interests of the people of New York," Mondello declared. "We need a real fighter in the United States Senate, someone who, from the moment he steps onto the floor of that august body, never stops advancing the cause of the hard working men and women of the Empire State.
"Pete King's entire career has been about fighting for his constituents, standing up to the special interests, and never compromising his ideals and principles. With the financial turmoil on Wall Street driving state, city and many local governments to the brink of fiscal meltdown, New York needs a tough, no nonsense U.S. Senator who doesn't need any on the job training.
"Our state will need its A-team out on the floor of the U.S. Senate when the new Obama administration sends its economic recovery plan to Capitol Hill. With Pete King working the Republican side of the aisle and Chuck Schumer in the Democratic cloakroom, New Yorkers can be sure that our state's agenda will always be front and center.

Of course, this isn’t going to happen. But it does prove that Peter King is more likely than not to run.
That got my attention...
I’m urging Gov. Paterson to appoint Shelly Silver. It’s the only way to get him out of NY State.
King is running.
Is King a good pick? I know nothing of the man.
“Is King a good pick?”
He’s a fairly good pick, probably the best we could get elected in New York state.
Larry Mondello? I haven't thought of him since Leave It To Beaver!
What? Oh. Never mind...
In terms of stances on polices and issues, how would you describe him?
Ha!.....fat chance. Shouldn’t this be under humor/satire?
Something of a populist urban conservative. Strongly pro-life, pro-Israel, and generally pro-WOT. A definite Law-and-Order type. Also, one of the few Republicans on friendly terms with organized labor. Big supporter of Ireland, and somewhat friendly with the IRA (though that’s not a big issue since the peace accord there). Annoyed conservatives by opposing impeachment in 1998, though that’s regarded as old news by most of them now.
He seem like a good choice given the political environment of NY.
My first thought, too!
Come on, think like capitalists! NY State is in dire economic straights. Gov. Paterson should offer the seat through a lottery. It could raise billions.
I agree with your assessment. I also have watched King mature as a politician since he first came to my attention during the Clinton Impeachment.
Shouldn’t they elect a Black sinator or is NY Racist?
Pray for W and Our Troops
>Larry Mondello? I haven’t thought of him since Leave It To Beaver
My thoughts exactly. But that was earlier today on RTN or TVLAND.
That kid had some conquerers blood in him, though, Vikings, Helvetians, etc. He didn’t look Italian. :)
Considering it’s New York, he’s the best we can do in both of electability and conservatism.
“The Governor should put partisan politics aside and do what is in the best interests of the people of New York,”
So funny I forgot to laugh.
